Excitement is growing about new coins featuring the King, leading to upsurge in search about 50 pence pieces.

2011 The Royal Mint’s Director of UK Currency, Mark Loveridge, comments; “The 50p was introduced as part of decimalisation and has grown to become Britain’s favourite coin. More than 70 events, anniversaries and individuals have been celebrated by circulating 50 pence pieces. Earlier this year to mark the 50th anniversary of Decimalisation, The Royal Mint revealed the rarest 50p coins in circulation - and many of them came from just before the 2012 Olympics. The first new money featuring the head of the UK’s monarch will appear in December, with 50 pence pieces being released. The Royal Mint has revealed which are the rarest 50p coins in existence.
