These new Android handsets don't represent a giant leap from last year's Pixel 6, but they do contain some smart updates.
The Pixel 7 is a tiny bit smaller and lighter than the Pixel 6, with a 6.3-inch screen (versus 6.4 inches). So while Face Unlock gives you a quicker path to your home screen, you can't use the feature to authenticate payments or to sign into banking apps—you'll have to use your fingerprint for those. The screen is still not completely flat like on the Pixel 7, though. The Pro model employs polished aluminum, and the standard Pixel has a matte finish. Google also offered up more details about the Pixel Watch, the company's first-ever smartwatch, which you can At its Made by Google event in New York City today, the company unboxed its two new flagship phones, both of which feature small but welcome improvements—like Face Unlock as a secondary way to authenticate your identity, and a Cinematic Blur feature that adds a portrait-like look to video footage.
Both devices are powered by the new Tensor G2 hardware, as Google continues to walk its own path on hardware, rather than turn to other providers. This puts a ...
The great thing, however, is that Google isn't pumping up the prices. There's also more power put into Night Sight, so it's going to be much faster than it was before, as well as boosts to video capture on the Pixel 7, including a Cinematic Blur function for a shallow depth of field. But there's some more clever tech going into this camera, which will combine data from both the main and telephoto lens to boost the quality of images between 2.5x and 5x zoom where it's between lenses. Most of the attention, however, will be on the cameras, with Google continuing to pursue its computational photography. This puts a focus on security, while also introducing VPN by Google One (coming later in the year), which will enable you to encrypt and anonymise your internet activity to again protect your security. That includes highlighting more metal across the camera bar on the back, moving from having an insert in the frame to a more solid solution.
The Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 pro release date is nearly here. The best pre-order deals on the handsets include free Pixel Watch and Pixel buds pro.

Google has just shown off its Pixel 7 Pro. But how does it compare to the previous generation? Here's the lowdown.
Based on what we saw at the presentation, it seems like the changes made to the Pixel 7 Pro are not all that radical. The design has also seen a significant change with the new generation. One key change to the new range of Pixels is the upgraded processor.
Google is set to announce the latest devices in the company's phone lineup with the Google Pixel 7 Pro and Google Pixel 7 launching today (October 6).

Alongside the budget-friendly Pixel 6a launched earlier this year, Google is catering to all mobile users.” “Today, we’re introducing a true portfolio of Pixel products for the first time: the new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro and the very first Google Pixel Watch,” Google said of its new products. “Google teased us with a brief glimpse of the Pixel 7 earlier this year but today has delivered a more in-depth look at its new flagship range,” he said.

The Pixel 7 series is available for pre-order now and will become available from October 13. Like its smaller sister, the Pixel 7 Pro is a refined version of last year's model rather than a great leap forward. The phones also play a large role in [Google's Pixel hardware ecosystem](https://www.makeuseof.com/pixel-ecosystem-will-help-google-take-on-apple/). The Pixel 7 is classed as an "affordable flagship" and features an upgraded Tensor G2 chip as well as a slightly smaller battery. They're available for pre-order now and will be shipped from October 13. The Pixel 7 Pro is the full-on flagship device, with the new chip, a longer zoom range on the telephoto camera, and a brighter display.
Google has officially launched its Pixel 7. The announcement came just weeks after Apple unveiled its own iPhone 14. Here's how they compare.
While this is unfortunately quite standard for a flagship smartphone these days, it’s still a lot more expensive than the Pixel 7 which comes in at a much lower £599. It’s the only standard Pixel, meaning that if you want a bigger phone, you’ll need to opt for the 6.4-inch tall Pixel 7 Pro. However, there’s also a Plus model, measuring 6.33 x 3.07 x 0.31-inches, meaning you can get a bigger phone without upgrading to the 14 Pro (though you’ll still need to pay a bit more for it). There’s another 12-megapixel sensor on the front and, like the Pixel, both the front and rear cameras can record 4K video at up to 60fps. The Pixel 7 has a dual rear camera that consists of a 50-megapixel wide sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. The long list of features includes the Magic Eraser, Motion Mode, Photo Unblur, Real Tone, Face Unblur and Night Sight.
With the Pixel 7 Pro greedily snaffling all the major upgrades, it's no surprise that this is the phone Google wants you to buy in 2022.
Predictably, the Pixel 7 Pro is the bigger phone of the two, with a 6.7in OLED display. The Pixel 7 Pro’s low-light shooting has seen a major improvement, with reduced visual noise and motion blur courtesy of a two times’ faster image capture via Night Sight. The biggest zoom on a Pixel yet, the 7 Pro is capable of hybrid zooming all the way up to 30x, with some rather interesting camera trickery filling in the gaps. The Pixel 7 Pro’s camera setup is slightly different, too. You’ll get 12GB of RAM no matter which model you choose – the regular Pixel 7 has 8GB. These upgrades will cost you, however, with the Pixel 7 Pro costing £150 more than the regular model.
The company's certainly got a solid foundation for the first gen device, including years of Wear OS updates and, of course, it's big Fossil IP and Fitbit ...

The Pixel 7 retails for $599 for the 128GB variant, and the Pixel 7 Pro is $899 for 128GB. The UI changes to look more like the Nest Hub, but it appears to be more powerful and information-dense than a dedicated smart display. All the promo images of the Pixel Watch show the band merging smoothly into the body, and the full reveal confirms the device has a custom band connector, not unlike the Apple Watch. The phones have an aluminum camera bar rather than the glass and plastic of last year, and it merges seamlessly into the rest of the frame. While these phones have the new Tensor G2 chip, Google glossed over the architecture specifics (yes, it’s a bit more modern and capable). It didn’t even try to keep the basic details secret, and with the help of

Google has finally taken the wraps off its new duo of phones – the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. But what sets the two phones apart?
But for £599, the Pixel 7 still packs plenty of punch. While the Pixel 7 purely relies on the AI Super Res digital zoom, the Pro has a dedicated telephoto camera. It has more cameras, more RAM and a bigger screen. It’s also available in 512GB size, something you won’t find on the Pixel 7. However, there’s a lot more going to be sucking through the battery on the Pro, including more pixels on the display and a faster refresh rate so it might not lead to better endurance. With the 7 Pro, you’ve got a 6.7-inch panel, whereas the Pixel 7 has a 6.3-inch version. Camera skills have always been a key selling point of the Pixel line, and that remains here. Both phones have a main 50MP sensor on the back, with an f/1.85 aperture. But it’s the Pixel 7 that stands out if you want something brighter. There’s nothing wrong with the FHD+ resolution and 1400 nits of peak brightness on the Pixel 7, though. The Pro model has more skills too, with a 120Hz refresh rate rather than 90Hz, a slightly higher peak brightness of 1500 It weighs 212g, as opposed to the 197g Pixel 7, and is much taller.
This isn't a huge deal, but it will normalize 10-bit HDR video across the Android ecosystem and widens the door for those apps to support higher-quality video ...
Snapchat and TikTok will both support 10-bit HDR video on the Pixel 7 series, the first apps on Android to support it. With this change, it makes it likely that other apps (that aren’t just TikTok and Snapchat) will be able to integrate and support HDR video as well in the future. One of the biggest for people who like to film on their smartphones is the introduction of support for 10-bit HDR video, increasing the number of colors that can be recorded in a video.

The Pixel 7 Pro has a few other high-end trimmings. The Pixel Watch starts at $349.99 for Bluetooth and WiFi and $399.99 for 4G LTE. We don't know how the Pixel 7 will match up just yet, but Google says it's made improvements. Google said the Pixel 7 has a 6.3-inch screen that's 25% brighter than last year's model for improved visibility outdoors. Google bumped the resolution of the back camera up to 50 megapixels, which should offer sharper images than last year's phones. The Tensor processor helps enable features that Google said it couldn't provide otherwise, such as increased camera functions, on-device translation and more. The Pixel is gaining momentum, but it still has just a fraction of the phone market. The company hopes that it can carry that momentum with the new Pixel 7. The service includes access to more than 200 workouts, offers information on how sleep and heart rate trends have changed over time and more. The Pixel Watch only works with Android phones. - The Pixel Watch, with Fitbit built in, starts at $349.99. The ultrawide camera has widened its field of view, and the 48-megapixel telephoto camera has a slightly boosted Super Res Zoom (from 20x to 30x) and another step of optical zoom, going from 4x in the Pixel 6 Pro to 5x in the newer phone. The company is touting that this gadget will be useful for things like video calling, photo editing, or just yelling at it across the room to summon Google Assistant. Its user interface will adapt to a more Nest Hub-like layout when it’s attached to the charging dock. The Pixel Watch comes in one size: a 41mm case. The tablet has pogo pins on its rear that attach magnetically to the dock. Like the Pixel 7, Google is touting 4K / 60fps in all of its new cameras (selfie cam included). The screen seems like a big deal, but one of the other big highlights here (and likely the main reason for the price gap between the two models) is the cameras. It features a couple of notable improvements, including the jump to the Tensor G2 processor, a refined (but less jubilant) set of colors, up to three days of battery life in Extreme Battery Saver mode, and a better 10.8-megapixel selfie cam. The Pixel 7 starts at $599 — just like the Pixel 6 — though its OLED display is just a hair smaller, going from 6.4 inches to 6.3 inches. (The Pixel 6 has an 8-megapixel front-facing cam.) While the camera hardware is similar to the last-gen model, Google is touting some Pixel 7-exclusive features, like 4K / 60 frames per second video on each lens and Cinematic Blur, one of its newfangled camera features that adds depth of field to your videos. The Pixel 7 Pro is Google’s true flagship phone, as was the Pixel 6 Pro in 2021. All said, there wasn’t much in the way of surprises this year since Google already spilled its own hardware beans at Google I/O, but it was great to see these devices up close and to get firm prices, release dates, and more.

With the graphics boost in the new Tensor 2, we're expecting great performance from Android 13 on this phone. RECOMMENDED VIDEOS FOR YOU...
The Google Pixel 7 is a curious device. The Pixel 7 can charge at 30W and Google says you'll get a half charge in 30 minutes. Google says that in an Extreme Battery Saver mode, the Pixel 7 will last up to 72 hours. That doesn't mean the Pixel 7 doesn't look great. The 6.3-inch display on the Google Pixel 7 Pro looked great in our hands-on time with the phone. Compared to other phones that claim to be a 'bare bones' Android experience, the Pixel 7 looks very similar. This is limited to use on the phone, so it won't be a Google Photos feature for everyone but we're excited to apply Google magic to our old portraits to eliminate blur and sharpen faces. The Pixel 7 looks and feels like a premium device, very much part of the new Pixel family. The white color ('Snow') is also appealing, though we prefer this more professional look on the Pixel 7 Pro. They have quite a few cases, but currently, it looks like just two options each for the new Pixel 7 series. The Hazel Pixel 7 Pro looks quite attractive to me, so I’d be inclined to get this clear case for that phone. The Pixel 7 is quite a bit smaller than the older phone, being 3mm shorter. Not enough to affect day-to-day use, but I was concerned about getting more of them and significantly reducing resale value. The Rugged Armor is a touch cheaper and a bit less bulky. I have the Pixel 6, and I hope they have improved the fingerprint scanner considerably; I wish they would roll out face unlock as well. They have a good balance of price and quality. The phones are very similar, after all. It is the user experience that is important, and we will have to wait for reviews to find out what that is like. Even the chipset itself hasn’t changed much, and early

Exclusive: Along with new camera hardware, the Tensor G2 AI brain in Google's $899 phone helps you zoom, focus, unblur faces and shoot in the dark.
The camera is the same as the one used in the Pixel 6 models. 7: An earlier version of this story incorrectly described the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro phones' main 50-megapixel camera. Google developed a method called Super Res Zoom that takes advantage of hand shake to gather more detailed data about the subject and zoom better. The Pixel 7 Pro's 50-megapixel main camera and 48-megapixel telephoto cameras offer something of a fix. "Obviously, the quality of 30x isn't going to be quite what it is at 10x," Schiffhauer said. The Pixel 6 Pro often pauses when activating its telephoto camera. You'll get full 12-megapixel raw images only at the Pixel 7 Pro's fixed zoom levels of 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 5x and 10x. For all the cameras, though, Google now uses an AI algorithm to process focusing data from the image sensor. On the Pixel 7 Pro, the ultrawide has the same sensor as last year but gets a macro mode, autofocus and a wider 0.5x zoom. That improves photos compared with just digitally upscaling a photo from the main camera, Schiffhauer said. (The 2x mode works on Google's Pixel 7, too.) The Pixel 7 models' keeps the same 50-megapixel camera but houses it in a restyled camera bar.
