Rangers vs St Mirren – LIVE updates (Scottish Daily Record)

The Ibrox side are aiming to make it three consecutive league wins on the spin but are up against an in-form Buddies side.

The ball works its way out wide and warrants a corner. A tame effort from Tavernier after his looping effort moments before is the only notable incident since. Almost a third for the Gers! Curtis Main advances and wallops a shot against the bar from just outside of the area. Mere moments after Jack's effort, Tavernier works an opening and aims for the top-right hand corner. Antonio Colak netted his third league double on the trot with James Tavernier netting from the spot and Fashion Sakala also on target against the Buddies to stay within two points of leaders Celtic. with the former Liverpool defender receiving treatment. Almost a bolt out of the blue. Borna Barisic found space 30 yards out, and the Croatian lined up a drilled left-footed strike which hit the post and bounced out. Not exactly a troubling effort, though. A fortuitous goal from Antonio Colak at the start of the half and a James Tavernier penalty on the half hour mark have seen Gio van Bronckhorst's men race into a 2-0 lead. And when Colak scored his second of the game with 15 minutes to go with a beautifully deft finish, before Sakala backed his superb performance with a well-taken strike, it left the 50,000-strong Ibrox crowd going home happy at the expense of the visitors to leave

OVER to Rangers then - after Celtic extended their lead at the top of the Premiership to FIVE points in remarkable fashion.Giovanni van Bronckhorst's.

He is on fire in the league." Colak opened the scoring for the Gers early on at Ibrox against a shell-shocked St Mirren. A great opportunity for the Gers after Colak was caught in the box. A St Mirren defender climbs above the Rangers defence at a set piece to get a head on goal but it drifts harmlessly wide of the target. He put the cherry on top for Rangers after a comprehensive victory at Ibrox. RANGERS are doing their part of the bargain - as they put St Mirren to the sword to limit their arrears on Celtic to TWO points.

Rangers lucky to get decision v St Mirren say BBC pundits on ... (Ibrox News)

Kenny Miller and Stuart Kettlewell both agreed that the penalty Rangers won in the win over St Mirren should not have been given by Nick Walsh.

“Maybe the movement from Colak afterwards, to jump up in the air, has maybe sold the referee in this case. But again, you’ve got to call it as it is. I think the big defender gets a clean enough touch on the ball. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men were good value for the win in the end, but had a few instances gone the other way it could have been a more uncomfortable afternoon. Miller added: “I would love to say it’s a stone waller, but I’d have to say big Declan Gallagher’s definitely got the first touch. But the two pundits felt that the decision was harsh because the defender had got the ball before the Croatia international.
