Mark Fotheringham takes charge of his first home game in charge of Huddersfield Town still looking for a vital first victory of his tenure as head coach ...

Jackson does great to get onto a long ball and into the box with a lovely first touch. Thomas crosses the free kick and Nakayama heads it back across the box. Mahoney goes in the book for a foul out wide. He looks to be tugged back by the sleeve by Christie and he wants a penalty, but the referee points for a goal kick. Stupid and petulant...if you're going to bite back like that you need to be cleverer with it. Town sit second bottom of the Championship after taking just eight points from their opening 11 games but would go within three points of managerless Hull with a game still in hand if they claim victory. A few more minutes to see out here. Great chasing by Turton to win a corner off Coyle from what looked like a lost cause. 46 - Town corner Hull threaten to get in behind by Helik reads it superbly to cut out the danger, and Town go on the counter - but Jackson's early ball in isn't good. Good challenege from Camara on the edge of the box to put Hull off a final pass but the ball drops for Estupinan anyway - only for him to put it over the bar. Thomas to take.

We're in West Yorkshire for an early kick-off against the Terriers.

Josh Ruffels is also coming on to replace Ben Jackson. Holmes coming off and Ollie Turton comes on. For Town, off the line, off the post and a big save from Baxter. CHANCE Rhodes is down at the far end, play goes on and Oscar smashes over the bar from inside the box. Then gets it all wrong and shoots well over from the edge of the box.

It was a first half where Hull had plenty of possession, but did not do much with it. Coyle’s throughball evaded Town’s backline, with Longman played onside and in the clear. The hosts’ game management was good after that. Their first shot on target arrived coming up to the hour mark and it was a tame one at that, with Coyle’s effort straight at Nicholls. Cyrus Christie actually threatened to lead a Hull break, but he ran into Jack Rudoni. Hull rang the changes, but looked a team of individuals.

Mark Fotheringham details key reason behind decision to join ... (Football League World)

Huddersfield Town boss Mark Fotheringham joined the club because of his side's supporters' passion at the John Smith's Stadium during home games…

The supporters deserve more success and they will be pleased with their side’s response to such a demoralising defeat at Reading, as they managed to pick up a potentially valuable point against Luton Town in midweek. Already seeing the club ply their trade in League One in the past, they won’t want to see their club return there with the players they have at their disposal. This may have been helped by a spell in the Premier League – but they are still a dedicated set of supporters and could be crucial in their side’s quest to turn things around following a poor start to the campaign.

Huddersfield Town 2-0 Hull City (Hull City)

Interim Head Coach Andy Dawson made just the one change to his starting XI to the one that secured victory over Wigan Athletic last time out, with Ryan Longman ...

Ryan Woods looked to pick out the driving run of Estupiñán, but the Colombian’s attempts were dealt with by the onrushing Nicholls. From Thomas’ short free-kick to Ben Jackson, the ball found its way to Rhodes, who saw his shot tipped onto the post by Baxter. Óscar Estupiñán looked to get the Tigers back on level terms, but his attempt from range was high and wide. At the other end, Greaves produced a brilliant last-ditch challenge to deny Rhodes one-on-one. Huddersfield doubled their lead on the 51st minute as Thomas’ free-kick found the head of Yuta Nakayama. Tom Lees then tested Nathan Baxter with a poked effort that was held by the Chelsea loanee before Longman and Pelkas both saw opportunities go off-target.

Huddersfield Town given symbol for season as sloppy start ... (Yorkshire Live)

But that Lewie Coyle own goal, forced by an Etienne Camara cross off the second ball from a half-cleared corner, was a turning point for the Terriers not just ...

Win the game in hand they have over the sides immediately above them, and they will be out of the relegation zone; just a week ago, that would have seemed like too much of an ask. Players like Camara and Yuta Nakayama didn’t just click into gear after nervy starts, but actively impressed; and Helik was an absolute rock at the heart of a defence that had looked alarmingly error-prone as recently as a few days ago. A better side would have ripped Town apart from their early mistakes, but Hull were not that side. Incredible where a bit of competence can get you in these bottom-half battles. Hull were dreadful, yes, but Town will face plenty more sides like them this season, and at this stage we are much less focused on whether they could do this against the likes of Sheffield United and Norwich and more on what they can do against the likes of Hull and Rotherham, and not just because the fixture list has so obliged. This was Town’s first win under Mark Fotheringham, back-to-back home wins for the first time this season, a big victory in a relegation six-pointer, and a second-half performance of enough conviction to convince everyone present that this side could start to rise up the table.

Huddersfield Town player ratings as Michal Helik leads the way in ... (Yorkshire Live)

Jordan Rhodes – Gave the Hull defence plenty to worry about and offered a good muscular fulcrum for Town to play off in wide areas. Danny Ward – Did brilliantly to dig the ball out from the byline and cross for Helik to double the lead. Etienne Camara – Started quite tentatively but grew into the game and did really well to get up the wing and cross to force Hull's own goal. A mixed bag on the ball as you expect both from the player and the number 10 role. Yuta Nakatama – A slightly erratic performance early on as he would win the ball well and then fail to get rid of it in timely fashion, but did enough and like many of his teammates grew into the game as the side took more confidence. Lee Nicholls – Given little to do thanks to Hull's unusual strategy of hefting the ball into the stands from 25 yards every time they got into the final third and the good defensive work ahead of him.

“We’re building every day and we know how tough a week this is now. This is a good message from Fotheringham as it shows how he is trying to raise the standards at the club and he will be delighted with how the game went. We’re going to look at how we’re going to improve certain aspects of the game – for example when they got through one on one in the first half, the game could have swung on that.”

Hull emptied their bench in the second half of a game in which they produced 12 attempts at goal. The radar of eight-goal Oscar Estupinan was decidedly wonky for once. Town have not been scintillating in their last two home matches. The gravity of that miss was exposed when Helik headed home at the back post from Ward’s cross which begged to be attacked on 51 minutes. Rhodes' fine half-volley was tipped onto the post splendidly by Nathan Baxter, who blocked Lees's follow-up. Ryan Longman was played onside from Coyle’s throughball and was clear on goal with only the advancing When games aren't played on Hull's terms, especially away from home, they struggle to regroup and dig in. Etienne Camara picked up the loose ball on the left and drove and his cross was glanced into his own net by the unfortunate Lewie Coyle. Since their last Championship away win on April 9 - they have also conceded a lamentable total of 21 goals in eight matches. The Tigers were tepid up front and pretty meek at the other end. By the time they got it out of their system, they were 2-0 down and Huddersfield were well set. Cyrus Christie threatened to break away, but ran into Jack Rudoni.
