Emmerdale has released an emotional goodbye video featuring Sally Dexter after her character Faith Dingle's death was aired on the show.

So it’s been a real pleasure to walk so closely with her. They’ll miss her outrageous hairstyles and I know, her clothes sense. “I think they’ll miss her mischief. “It’s been wonderful to be here. So yeah, they’ll miss her mischief,” she said. A little bit different for Faith, obviously, for obvious reasons.

Reflecting on the unique character she played, Sally mused: 'I think [viewers] love her lust for life and the fact she'll give anybody a chance, at least once.

And she continued with some final words on the legend that is Faith. ‘My aim is to concentrate on a bit of fitness. ‘It’s like an orchestra strikes up – that incredible view of the Yorkshire countryside. You then think you have them for years and then they die. ‘She seemed to be there on the page, but when she came to life and I was allowed to slip into her shoes, it just took on a life and power of its own, sort of an unstoppable force. When it’s expected, you wait for them to die, then they don’t.

She’s playing a blinder in emmerdale. Sally Dexter is a superb actress. And got Nate round to help her up to bed so she could say a sneaky farewell. Emmerdale's Sally Dexter has special message for soap fans (Liverpool Echo)

Emmerdale said goodbye to one of its most loved characters on Thursday, as Faith Dingle reached the end of her battle with terminal cancer.

She added: "It's only been a few short years but I've loved it, and I've loved sharing it with all of you. At the final moment, Cain turned up at his dying mum's side, realising that it was her time to go. The character has been making beloved memories with her family knowing that her time is coming to an end. Now, Sally Dexter has said an emotional thank you, and goodbye, to Emmerdale fans. Amy Walsh who plays Tracy Metcalfe said: "She's just great!!!" But in recent episodes her body has grown frail and her mind wasn't quite what it once was.

Viewers watched the dying character die with her son, Cain, by her side in emotional scenes.

But as Cain instructed his wife to phone an ambulance, Faith refused and so he sat and made her comfortable as she prepared to take her final breaths. Faith told her son just how much she loved him, and Cain was emotional as he began to return the sentiment, only to be rudely interrupted. The usual hard-faced character then fell apart as his mum slipped away, while sister Chas wasn't there for her mum's final moments as she enjoyed time in a hotel with Al Chapman amid her sordid affair. But before long, there was one last surprise in store, courtesy of Chas and Rodney Blackstock as an ice cream van parked up and as Faith was guided over to it, Diane Sugden appeared through the window. And Faith still managed to keep a smile on her face when her young grandson Isaac asked her, in that way only a child can, what it's like to die. And after promising his mum that they'd go through with her plans, Cain actually enlisted the help of Faith's family and friends to bring the beach to her.
