This made him the first black editor-in-chief of the magazine and although he successfully edited the magazine, he received some backlash when he was appointed editor-in-chief. He remained in this role for over 20 years and has also worked at Vogue Italia and American Vogue. He took over the reins of the famous fashion magazine in 2017. I knew all I wanted to do was create a magazine that celebrated women – every woman is beautiful regardless of colour, shape, age, or economic background. Edward's cover stars have included Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, Rihanna, Judi Dench (at 85, British Vogue's oldest cover star), Madonna, and football player Marcus Rashford. That’s all I wanted to do and nothing got in my way, but I took a beating for it before I started.”
