Claressa Shields vs Savannah Marshall predictions: Eddie Hearn ... (Daily Mail)

SHIELDS VS MARSHALL PREDICTIONS: The undisputed middleweight title is on the line for the winner - and it should be a close fight with both fighters ...

'Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall - what an event and what a week - the fight is on, at long last. However, Marshall will start to connect as the rounds go on when she works it out that you beat someone that's faster than you by punching with them. The pair are two very different fighters - and two very, very good fighters. She also has extra added motivation in the form of the loss to Marshall during their days as amateurs. 'Claressa has got to get her emotions in check. 'As a fighter, she is busy, she's in your face and whilst she isn't a banger, her presence alone will normally intimidate you. Marshall, though, could both outbox Shields and knock her out. I'm leaning towards a Savannah Marshall win. But who will edge the showdown and have their hand raised by the end of the night? 'Equally when I was sat there I could see Claressa's confidence and this is her time… Eddie Hearn backs 'big puncher' Savannah Marshall to stop Claressa Shields while Ben Shalom hails the Brit as a 'superstar'... I think she'll be fighting off emotion in this fight, and that'll be very dangerous for her.

Savannah Marshall: 'We always mention Katie Taylor, we don't ... (Metro)

Savannah Marshall insists Claressa Shields' ignorance will be her downfall as she vows to take her world titles on Saturday.

Shields vs Marshall is viewed as a true 50-50 contest but for all her sublime technical skill and world level experience, the American’s power fails to measure up to that of Marshall, ‘the hardest female puncher in history’, according to her trainer Peter Fury. Because of the story, the background, because of where we are both from, our personalities. Fast forward a decade and both Shields and Marshall are set for a career-best payday with a irrefutably genuine rivalry taking centre stage in London. And I would welcome the trilogy.’ It is the ignorance and attitude. I was a well-rounded amateur back then, a typical amateur. While Shields scooped Olympic gold in 2012 and 2016, Marshall, a Commonwealth, European and world champion at amateur level, fell at the first hurdle on both occasions. ‘She is a very ignorant person and I think this will be the downfall of her whole career. ‘When I sit and think about that time, I remember I was sat there thinking, “why I am I not getting that chance. The American’s defeat to her rival in their now infamous amateur clash in 2012 serves as the only blemish on her otherwise perfect boxing record. The noise has been constant for Marshall, who was accused of exaggerating an injury earlier this year in order to ‘buy more time’. Savannah Marshall has been living in Claressa Shields’ head for a decade.

Claressa Shields vs Savannah Marshall live, UK start time, results ... (Mirror.co.uk)

Savannah Marshall and Claressa Shields finally meet in their undisputed world title fight, five weeks after the bout was initially due to take place.

Hunter takes the centre of the ring and is landing at will, as the skill gap between her and Alvarez is vast. Some good work from Hunter towards the end of the round as she lands her jab with ease. The pair have traded verbal blows ahead of the fight, with Shields as combative out of the ring as she is in it. Alvarez is swinging her head wildly and Hunter finishes the round on top. Sakharov is again on the backfoot as the round comes to a close. She's starting to block the overhand right now and is having better success because of it, countering Alvarez as she wildly swings her head. Alvarez is almost falling into Hunter come the end of the round but her chin continues to hold up. Artingstall is firing out her hab from the opening bell and beating up the body of Sakharov sith some brutal hooks. She manages to circle her way out of the corner but is still getting beat up in the center of the ring. Good work the body from Hunter but Alvarez is still swinging hard. Hard right hands to the body from Dubois and she goes upstairs after. Good jab from Dubois to start the round off.

Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall finally go head-to-head for the undisputed women's middleweight title.

For Marshall, she let too many of the early rounds run away from her as Shields went toe-to-toe and utilized her exceptional footwork. But it was Shields who looked the better with a number of eye-catching combinations. The tide seemed to have turned in the sixth with Shields showing possible signs of tiredness.

"I walked out before any of the boxing started and I was like, 'wow'. Mayer's jabs catch the eye and probably give her the round, although it's really close to call. The jab is also working nicely for her. Shields connects with a series of shots including one to the body. Mayer lands a vicious left hook and whips in shots with her right. 10.40 p.m.: Shields performs a dance routine with backing dancers as she emerges in a red, white and blue uniform. Shields holds up a glove towards the end of the round and dodges one of Marshall's punches with almost mocking ease. Shields succeeds with an uppertcut to the body. It's an excellent first round as well with the bombs being brandished almost immediately. Shields holds Marshall of and slips in sly shots that lack a little of the slickness they carried early on. Every time Marshall motors forward, you suspect Shields is being fuelled to throw something even more sinister back. We go to the scorecards!

Claressa Shields beats Savannah Marshall to become undisputed ... (Mirror.co.uk)

Marshall and Shields finally met in London to crown the undisputed middleweight world champion - and to settle their bitter rivalry.

Shields landed two good left hooks to the body and a right to head, but Marshall replied with a hard onslaught as the final bell sounded, with the judges seeing it 96-94, 97-93, 97-93 in favour of Shields as she became a undisputed champion at middleweight. Baumgardner was the quicker of the two fighters in the opening rounds but Mayer begun to find her range as the fight hit the midway point. The fakes of Marshall to set up her right hand were paying off as Shields continued to counter with hooks of her own. Marshall had Shields on the ropes at the beginning of the second round but the American defended well behind her shoulder and came back with her own onslaught. But it was Shields who made a fast start and clung on in the face of Marshall's late flurry to be given the nod by all three judges at ringside. Two-time Olympic gold medalist Shields was putting her three middleweight titles on the line in the undisputed clash, as Marshall came into the fight having held the WBO title since 2020.

Sensational Shields beats Marshall in epic (BBC Sport)

Claressa Shields becomes undisputed middleweight champion by beating long-time rival Savannah Marshall via unanimous decision in London.

Shields' confidence was never in doubt. Marshall's chin stood up to the challenge and the Briton was serenaded by the home crowd in the eighth round as she searched for a spark. The big puncher was repeatedly caught by the lightning pace of Shields' counters and when she tried to stamp her authority in the second, she was caught by two uppercuts from the two-time Olympic champion. The fight opened with a furious two minutes with Shields pouring on the pressure with shots to the body and head of 31-year-old Marshall. It was billed as the biggest fight in women's history and could quickly turn into one of the greatest rivalries in boxing history if fans are treated to a second and even third fight. The American was sensational in a career-best performance, avenging the only defeat on her pro and amateur record and staking her claim as one of the best fighters in the world.
