Guardiola stops two unhappy Man City stars and more moments ... (Manchester Evening News)

After nine minutes of injury time, referee Anthony Taylor called time on a feisty encounter between Manchester City and Liverpool, with the hosts taking all ...

For all Taylor's attempts to play on, he prevented City a clear chance to attack on the break to send Klopp off when that could have waited a few seconds more. The issue was that after the officials had decided no foul had been committed, City were allowed to break upfield in search of an equaliser. When he became involved in a wrestling match with Mo Salah in the second half, dragging the Egyptian to the floor as he lost his balance, Anfield was incensed - even if Bernardo had been getting similar physical treatment all game. And for large portions of the game, when City had possession, they lined up in a clear back three with Ake coming inside alongside Akanji and Ruben Dias - with Cancelo moving into midfield. From the start, Liverpool took advantage of referee Anthony Taylor's decision to let 'small' fouls go, and they used that stance to target Bernardo Silva. City often allow a full-back to push up in possession, but this felt like a more defined back three, even if Cancelo resumed his position out of possession.

Haaland is human! Man City winners, losers and ratings as Cancelo ... (Goal.com)

Erling Haaland was shutout for the first time since August as Liverpool ended Manchester City's unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Anfield was electric, and the Emirates Stadium would have been the same with Mikel Arteta's side four points clear and sensing blood. Perhaps that will play to City's benefit, as the squad can take a couple of days off before returning to training after a painful defeat. Arsenal are four points clear of both City and Tottenham, with Chelsea just a further four points behind with a game in hand.

Premier League confirm two problems with Phil Foden disallowed ... (Daily Express)

It wouldn't be a Manchester City vs Liverpool match without a drop of controversy...

Mohamed Salah's sensational late winner condemned City to their first Premier League defeat of the season. While presenting Match of the Day 2 on Sunday night, Chapman confirmed that Haaland's shirt pull wasn't the only problem identified in the build-up to Foden's goal. Guardiola was visibly incensed by the decision on the Anfield touchline in a heated affair that included Jurgen Klopp being sent off. Liverpool will look to continue their momentum against West Ham United in midweek and Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Foden latched onto a loose ball after Kevin de Bruyne's low cross into the box and thought he had fired Man City ahead on 54 minutes. And despite VAR's decision being fueled by the Norwegian striker's foul on Fabinho, BBC presenter Mark Chapman has claimed his challenge on Alisson would've also been deemed illegal.

Man City claim their bus was attacked on way out of Liverpool FC ... (Manchester Evening News)

Manchester City's team bus has taken some damage on the short journey back from Liverpool to the Etihad.

On the pitch, a Mo Salah goal was enough to reinvigorate Liverpool's campaign in the Premier League after a stuttering start as they inflicted City's first defeat of the season in all competitions. And at the end of another day where neither side could claim the moral high ground, City's bus was pelted again as it made its way down Anfield Road with subsequent inspection showing a crack in the windscreen. Jurgen Klopp insisted he had not seen any coins thrown, while [Guardiola sarcastically said](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/what-pep-guardiola-said-anfield-25277980) that the fans showed less accuracy than when the City bus was attacked in 2018.

Alf-Inge Haaland sends Man City warning about son Erling Haaland (Manchester Evening News)

The Norwegian striker has enjoyed a blistering start to life at Manchester City.

"He's one of the best defenders in the world so it's going to be really tough." Haaland was unable to find a way through Liverpool's backline on Sunday, with Virgil van Dijk playing a starring role in his side's win, and Haaland Snr admitted before the game that the challenge would be one of his son's biggest to date. "It's going to be tough but we're trying as best we can not to get too focused on everything that happens next to the pitch."

Man City formation in Liverpool defeat disputed by Gary Neville and ... (Sky Sports)

Was Gary Neville or Jamie Carragher right in dispute over Manchester City system? Carra says Liverpools defence was key to stopping Kevin De Bruyne; ...

They had a man short on that side, which, I think, left De Bruyne slightly isolated in that channel. "They only had De Bruyne and Cancelo on that [right] side. "De Bruyne had no player outside on that final line. Carragher: They didn't play with a back five with the ball, they didn't!! [But] the space for De Bruyne is always created when Cancelo [is slightly behind him and wide] and another player [is out wide, in front of Cancelo]. "Haaland doesn't score and the other one was the disallowed goal - a brilliant pass.

[Reds’ win over City](https://www.liverpoolworld.uk/sport/football/liverpool/sadio-mane-reacts-to-liverpools-defeat-of-man-city-and-makes-confident-claim-3881918) has left them eighth in the Premier League - six points from the top four. “We’re trying to disallow goals all the time. Speaking to Premier League Productions, the Spaniard said: “One of my concerns as a manager is that, when you allow a game to carry on, it could be one minute extra, you could have an injury, a red card, a goal disallowed. For the players, the fans, for everyone. Unless the hands of Alisson were on the ball or in the actual moment of them scoring. The defending champions looked to have taken the lead through Phil Foden earlier in the match, however it was eventually chalked off after a VAR check showed that Erling Haaland had fouled Fabinho in the build-up.
