Eavis continued: “The £50 deposit on ticket sales day in November will be the same as ever, the balance not due until April. Earlier today, it was revealed that tickets for next year’s event will cost £335 plus a £5 booking fee – an increase of £55.
Many have said the costs may well be too high for some regulars to attend the iconic event.
Another person said they would not be going to the festival next year because of the price hike. Seasoned Glastonbury festivalgoers will know that you must register online beforehand and fulfil specific requirements before battling it out for tickets, but maybe next year there will be fewer people in attendance as prices become unaffordable for some. Another social media user said they were "disappointed" after seeing the announcement. One social media user who wasn’t very happy with the price hike said: “Love Glastonbury, but for many people this is just unaffordable at this time.” When the tickets originally went on sale in 2020, they were priced at £265. Next year's festival will run from June 21-25 at Worthy Farm in Pilton, near Glastonbury.
The co-organiser says the festival is facing 'enormous rises in the cost of running the show'
Twitter user @davejmcn penned: "Glastonbury ticket price is madness I think everyone should boycott the ticket sale, don’t try for tickets seriously, don’t even think about trying, stay offline, go away, leave the tickets alone" as @RobMorley_ echoed: "That’s far too expensive. People were quick to take to Twitter to share their thoughts on the price hike. But others affirmed that Glastonbury was worth the money. Tickets for 2019’s festival were sold in 2018 for £248, plus a £5 booking fee. Tickets for the 2023 event will cost £340 when they go on sale in early November, organisers have confirmed. Co-organiser Emily Eavis blamed the increase on the 'enormous rises in the costs of running this vast show' and the continuing fallout from the pandemic.
Prospective purchasers must register in advance, part of Glastonbury’s effort to stop tickets ending up in the hands of touts. Last month, UK Music, the body representing artists, labels and the live industry, called for a package of support including tax relief, a VAT cut for struggling venues and a streamlining of restrictions affecting workers and touring between Europe and the UK. Comparable festivals have not been subject to such drastic ticket price rises. [musicians cancelling shows](https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/oct/18/risks-rising-costs-and-relentless-demands-why-so-many-musicians-are-cancelling-their-tours) and admitting that touring has become unaffordable, as well as the cost of living crisis shaking audience demand in the sector as ticket purchases become luxury items. A 2023 ticket for the Reading and Leeds festivals is marginally cheaper than in 2022; tickets for Green Man in Wales have risen from £210 for 2022 to £235 for 2023; End of the Road has risen from £190 to £235. That said, Glastonbury is well known for paying artists less than other festivals: the organisers rely on the prestige of the festival and the good will of artists to keep costs low. I’m not sure I can afford Glastonbury 2023 and if you’re in that boat too, we will have to accept that for what it is and try to save up harder for 2024. I don’t want to have to write my own songs: I want the people who are good at it to be paid fairly for the nebulous and magical work that they do. When everything looks bleak, it is important to have communal events like Glastonbury to look forward to, places where we can feel joy and happiness for a few days. I’d rather pay more for Glastonbury than see it become one of these money-spinning endeavours that just happens to have a few bands playing in the background. Keeping costs low, donating to charities, securing globally famous headliners and building and running a city in the middle of nowhere: no wonder ticket prices have gone up. Trying to describe what Glastonbury actually is to someone who hasn’t beheld it with their own bleary eyes from the top of a hill as the sun rises over the Park stage is very difficult but it is essentially a small city constructed in the countryside. Like many people preparing for the annual scramble for Glastonbury tickets, I had to catch my breath when I saw the announcement of the pricing for the 2023 edition. Compared to £80 for a rubbish seat at an arena show, you only need to see four-and-a-bit arena-level artists at Glastonbury to effectively get your money’s worth. I can’t even begin to imagine how much power it takes to run the site not only for the five days that the festival is on but also for the months either side as it is constructed and taken down. I thought about my bank account, and the fact that I spent £12 last time I was in Sainsbury’s and came out with only three essential items. Tickets have never broken the £300 mark but here, now, in the midst of a cost of living crisis and a tanking economy,
