Good from Holmes to draw a man before releasing Jackson on the left. The referee has a word with both players as well as Town skipper Lees, but no cards somehow. Join us as we bring you all the updates throughout the evening, from team news to match action to post-match thoughts, with updates appearing automatically below. Good switch of play from Town to send Turton up the left and and plays it to Jackson to cut back and cross on his right, but Rhodes can't quite meet it and a Preston defender nods it behind to make sure.

The away side had a glorious chance to double their lead in the 81st minute, after Riis sent a cross to the far post for Fernรกndez, who hit a volley into the ground and it bounced agonisingly over the crossbar. North End continued to control proceedings, without creating too much in the way of chances, until the 41st minute when a lovely spell of one-touch football opened a crossing opportunity for Brad Potts, who was fouled right on the edge of the box. Cunningham scored his first goal since February 2021 five minutes into the second period, rising highest to head home on the end of a Ben Whiteman corner.

Fotheringham has a lot of work to do on the training ground pitches and perhaps a lot more harsh words to deliver. It is clearly his natural habitat but the tools at his disposal are looking pretty blunt right now. Former Sheffield United loanee Ben Woodburn put a couple of volleys well clear of the Huddersfield goal. It did little to enliven the game. The excitement and promise of last season feels like a very distant memory. [Ben Whiteman](/topic/ben-whiteman) breaking up what little momentum there was, a lovely Danny Ward touch released Thomas in the 13th minute.

Covered the ground as he always does but struggled to impact things as a number ten in the first half. Lost it a couple of times with his back to goal in the first half, but options were minimal and passes into him were not the best either. Steady enough in the first half and had one slick move with Whiteman, but was fouled as he went to cross. Defended fine in the first half but didn't combine effectively with Fernandez and the midfield. Surprised to see him play in the middle of PNE's back three but he got through the first half unscathed, though the Irishman did play rather deep. Danny Ward latched on to a Ben Jackson header to send the first chance of the game over Freddie Woodman's crossbar.
