Of course we know their strengths, we know some weaknesses that we should exploit as well, and we are ready for the match. This is a big evening for the ageless wonder that is Ashley Young. Tonight begins what may prove to be the pivotal stretch of Villa’s entire season. Three wins in their next three, and Fulham could be sitting very pretty indeed. I’m here to fight every single minute of every day and I’ve got every belief and confidence in myself that I can change this situation. He is the 42nd player to reach that particular landmark. The oldest....Teddy Sheringham. Willian, Pereira and Palhinha are involved in some clever interplay before the ball finds it's way to De Cordova-Reid on the right. The hosts are really pressing now. He feeds Reed on the by-line whose cut-back pass finds an unmarked Mitrovic before a slip ruins his chance of getting his shot away cleanly. Fulham have dominated the first half. Fulham 3-0 Aston Villa: Tyrone Mings nets own goal to complete ... (Eurosport.co.uk)

Fulham have piled even more pressure on Steven Gerrard after beating Aston Villa 3-0 at Craven Cottage.

His arm was away from his body, however, and Oliver points to the spot. Mitrovic gets a shot away from a tight angle and it strikes Cash on the hand at close range. Mitrovic got on the scoresheet not long afterwards, winning a penalty after catching Matty Cash on the hand with a shot inside the area. Luiz moved his head towards his opponent and Mitrovic went down in a heap, leaving Michael Oliver, the referee, with little choice but to show the Brazilian a straight red after a VAR review. Neither Martinez nor Mings were able to keep out Harrison Reed, however, with the Fulham midfielder scoring after a period of sustained pressure. Emi Martinez twice denied Willian and tipped over a curling free-kick from Andreas Pereira, while Aleksandar Mitrovic twice headed off target from menacing positions and, around the 15-minute mark, was only denied the opener after Tyrone Mings cleared off the line.

Mitrovic strikes as Fulham beat 10-man Aston Villa to pile pressure ... (The Guardian)

Harrison Reed, Aleksandar Mitrovic and an own goal from Tyrone Mings gave Fulham a 3-0 win over Aston Villa, who had Douglas Luiz sent off.

There was a booking for Mings for cleaning out Willian and before play could restart Michael Oliver was going over to the pitchside monitor to watch a replay of Luiz butting Mitrovic. At least the goal stirred Villa into life, Bernd Leno denying Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings, but it was not enough to placate the travelling support. Villa were shapeless and Gerrard’s decision to play Bednarek looked misguided from the moment that Willian and Antonee Robinson began to team up on Konsa. The fans who travelled down to Craven Cottage summed up the darkening mood, booing their manager at half-time and after the final whistle, and on the evidence of their efforts here the players have also given up on Gerrard, who was unable to change anything about his team failing to match It was a night of indignities by the Thames. There was Douglas Luiz making it easy for Marco Silva’s rampant Fulham by letting the side down with a brainless red card.

Steven Gerrard insists he will not quit Aston Villa despite fans calling ... (iNews)

Supporters called for Gerrard to go during Thursday's farcical defeat at Craven Cottage following a poor run of results and performances.

It was so far away from how we looked at the weekend and we’re in this situation and I’m in this situation to face the tough questions because the reality is it’s not good enough for this club.” Leeds fans also turned on their boss, chanting “where the ‘f*** is Jesse Marsch” at the King Power. Gerrard’s decision to strip Tyrone Mings of the captaincy and replace him with John McGinn has also been called into question with both players struggling badly for form so far this season. Aleksandar Mitrovic doubled Fulham’s advantage from the penalty spot before Mings’ own goal sealed an emphatic win for the hosts and Gerrard’s exit. I can feel the fans frustration. Gerrard lost just under half of his 40 matches in charge of the club and the 19th defeat proved to be the final straw for the club’s decision-makers who backed him with a number of high-profile signings during his two transfer windows at the helm.

Pereira’s corner was punched clear by the Villa goalkeeper to Harrison Reed, alone on the edge of the box. There’s still a lot of time left at 1-0 to get back and win the game. His header was firm and beat Martinez but Mings was on the line to block it. Mitrovic scored from the spot. The mountain gets higher to climb.’ He abandoned the Bednarek plan at the interval. Perhaps most painful for Gerrard was the bitter disappointment followed flickers of encouragement in defeat against Chelsea on Sunday. Perhaps they detected the visitors were afraid and devoid of confidence. The Serbian forward looked sure to score as he sailed through the air. His sweet effort fizzed through a crowd, clipped another Villa player and went wide. Fulham were excellent, give them credit, but Villa slithered from bad to worse. This much we knew from a playing career famed for its superhero rescue missions and stoppage-time salvage operations.
