When news first broke that Bloober Team (Layers of Fear, The Medium) was partnering with Konami and most likely working on Silent Hill, it was easy to fear a return to where the series had left off in 2012 — working with decidedly mid-range, journeyman Western studios like Climax, Vatra, and Double Helix. Considering that safe, known quantities like Until Dawn developer Supermassive are known to have been involved in the Silent Hill pitch process, it’s great to see Konami take a risk on such creators and pursue an unconventional development set-up to realize their vision. [Silent Hill 2](https://www.polygon.com/23413363/silent-hill-2-remake-release-date-ps5-pc-konami) leads the way, which allows Konami to remind fans of, and introduce new players to, the series at its very best, and carries minimal creative risk. Here Konami is acknowledging the huge innovation that smaller, indie developers have brought to the horror space in recent years, as well as a smart willingness to see Silent Hill move across genres and markets, and potentially into experimental forms, within gaming. But it also gave the publisher a chance to show that it had all bases covered, and that it understands both the economic realities and creative opportunities of modern franchise management. from the PlayStation Store, making it almost completely inaccessible if you didn’t already have it installed; and conducted [a protracted and undignified break-up](https://www.polygon.com/2015/12/16/10220356/hideo-kojima-konami-explainer-metal-gear-solid-silent-hills) with its star creator Kojima that included [removing his name](https://www.polygon.com/2015/3/19/8257283/metal-gear-solid-konami-branding) from promotional materials for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and forbidding him from accepting an award for it at The Game Awards. But the damage done to the publisher’s reputation with players — not to mention to its ability and indeed willingness to make games — was severe. The Silent Hill 2 PS5 remake trailer reminded me that it and Resident Evil really love their big blond babies.

They fumble in the dark with empty heads and, yes, they survive their horrors, but with blinders on. [24-year-old girlfriends](https://www.newsweek.com/facet-check-leonardo-dicaprio-doesnt-date-women-over-age-25-1738497), despite the soullessness of the whole thoughtless practice. You can’t coast on luck and boyish perplexity all the time, as much as Silent Hill and Resident Evil insist otherwise. They get to navigate the marsh and the mist, waving their guns like lollipops, shouting “What was that!?” at every bump in the night. I’m certainly disturbed by Christopher Columbus, who Scientific American [described in 1893](https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/anecdotes-from-the-archive/will-the-real-christopher-columbus-please-stand-up/) as being “with blond beard and hair, clear complexion and blue eyes.” I feel it in my core.

We will expand our partnerships and broaden the world of Silent Hill together with teams that love the series from around the globe. The revival of the Silent Hill series does not end with Silent Hill 2. With that change we want to immerse players even deeper into the game, make them feel like they are a part of this unreal world, and deliver them a more visceral experience across the board. We’ve already shown with our previous title, The Medium, that we can get pretty creative when it comes to haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. We are working closely with the original creators, including Akira Yamaoka and Masahiro Ito, to ensure we’re keeping that unique Silent Hill feel intact. Silent Hill 2 is a beloved and timeless classic – it’s almost a cliche to say it out loud, but it’s just so true for many of the Bloober Team members.

Silent Hill 2 remake announced as Konami exhumes hit horror series (The Guardian)

The legendary psychological horror franchise is set to return with three video games, a movie and an interactive streaming series.

Konami may have been absent from Silent Hill for a decade, but after the 45-minute stream, the extent of its commitment to that eerie little town became very clear indeed. A movie is on the way, Return to Silent Hill, from the director Christophe Gans, responsible for the original Silent Hill film. At that time, a reboot of the series, titled Silent Hills, went into development at Kojima Productions, the studio set up by Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear. During a YouTube presentation on Wednesday evening, Konami announced a reboot of the acclaimed sequel Silent Hill 2 and two new adventures, Silent Hill Townfall and Silent Hill F. Also involved are key members of the original Silent Hill development team, including the composer Akira Yamaoka and concept artist Masahiro Ito, best known for his creation of Silent Hill’s most infamous monster, Pyramid Head. [A teaser trailer](https://youtu.be/_wWF_TKSvzI) featuring a retro portable TV device gave little away, and no details about a release date or platforms were revealed.

The developer behind Stories Untold and Observation is working with Konami and Annapurna Interactive on a new Silent Hill game called Silent Hill: Townfall.

But Konami, No Code, and Annapurna are clearly trying to keep Townfall something of a mystery for now. No Code is the indie developer behind Stories Untold and Observation, an anthology horror game and sci-fi thriller, respectively, that netted the studio back-to-back BAFTA awards. One of the more intriguing projects revealed at Konami’s Silent Hill Transmission event on Wednesday was Silent Hill: Townfall, a mysterious new game in the horror franchise developed by No Code and Annapurna Interactive.
