Christian Horner hits back at 'appalling' Red Bull criticism in F1 ... (The Guardian)

Christian Horner said unfounded allegations that Red Bull got an advantage by breaching the budget cap had resulted in children of employees being bullied.

Horner confirmed he is in discussions with the FIA after being invited to enter what is known as an “accepted breach agreement”. The cap for 2021 was set at £114m and it is believed Red Bull exceeded it by £1.8m. “The cap is a rule, no different than the technical rules in the sport. The damage that does to the brand, to our partners, to our drivers, to our workforce. “My letter set out if a team spends more than the cap they are going to get an advantage,” he said. The rhetoric of ‘cheats’, the rhetoric that we have this enormous benefit.

Red Bull increased its presence in F1 when it took over as the title sponsor of the Sauber Formula 1 team in 1995. While Horner built Red Bull Racing into a championship-winning force, Mateschitz pounced on the opportunity to buy another F1 team the following year. He transformed Minardi into Toro Rosso – Italian for ‘Red Bull’ – to serve as a finishing school for its future champions. Red Bull finally ended their uninterrupted title run last year when

Should Perez bomb in 2023 the door would be open for Ricciardo to resume as Verstappen’s team mate. The Aussie also notched 18 podium positions in that time, compared to his team-mate’s 11. So he will be around and about the Formula One paddock next year..” Perez prefers this kind of driving style and performed well against his team mate Verstappen. If he’s part of our team that’d be great, but a third role is not really what’s best for him.” Daniel Ricciardo is currently the second most successful F1 driver in the sport not to win a drivers’ world title. “You will see me around,” Ricciardo said. “I’m just putting in a plan to honestly try to get me back to the front of the grid and win races and do all the stuff I know I can do.” A return to the front of the grid for Ricciardo is not on the cars given Ferrari have LeClerc and Sainz locked in on deals that run into 2024 and beyond and as do Mercedes with George Russell. The Aussie driver has refused to entertain drives with “less competitive” F1 teams and “has a plan” to get back to the front of the Formula One grid. The Aussie described his time for the last two seasons at McLaren as “a grind” and Ricciardo has been linked with Mercedes to become their reserve driver for 2023. Yet having been dismissed by McLaren a year before his contract expires he appears to have no Formula one drive for 2023.

Red Bull co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz dead at 78, according to ... (NBC Sports)

Dietrich Mateschitz, the co-founder of Red Bull who became a major player in motorsports and other sports, is dead at 78, according to the F1 team.

Later that year, he then also bought Minardi and renamed it Toro Rosso, astutely using the team as a feed team for Red Bull. German league regulations prevented the company from naming the team Red Bull Leipzig – its name in German, RasenBallsport, means “grass ball sport Leipzig” but the club just refers to itself as RB Leipzig. Red Bull says Mateschitz worked on the formula for three years before the modified drink was launched under its new name in his native Austria in 1987. Red Bull operates soccer teams in top divisions across Austria, Germany, Brazil and the United States. With the growing success of Red Bull, he significantly expanded his investments in sports. He was always enthusiastic, encouraging and supportive on the good days and the bad days,” Horner said.

Even since [leaving Red Bull at the end of] 2018 we kept in touch. “Of course for us it was a tough entry to qualifying. “Unfortunately I didn’t get to spend much time with him. What he achieved and what he’s done for so many people around the world, across different sports, is second to none. For me, it was at the time already very special, but it’s definitely even more special now.”
