Ahead of the release of the new Arctic Monkeys album, 'The Car', Alex Turner has revealed the one song he wants played at his funeral, and it's strange.

He added: “I wrote ‘Dance Commander’ as a fictional story about how I wanted to withdraw like $3,000 and go to a club,” he added. “So I’d get off work and I was trying to stop doing music, but then I ended up writing more songs in that period than I ever did, just because I was so bored.” “But I was in a studio apartment at I-10, Overland, just sitting there. “I didn’t know that many people in LA at the time, and I was working weird shifts like 2 p.m. The frontman recalled: “I remember getting the train to Manchester to see the Vines in October 2002. I saw that other friend a couple of weeks ago, actually, and we still talk about it now, getting the train in the morning, going right up to the front.”

Alex Turner discusses musical development of Arctic Monkeys (Economic Times)

In 2002, Alex Turner and pals he had known since elementary school started the band Arctic Monkeys.

The views expressed here are that of the respective authors/ entities and do not represent the views of Economic Times (ET). The [Arctics](/topic/arctics)are the only band in the studio, which is unusual. It also doesn't, despite guitarist Jamie Cook's lazily banging out the riff in between takes of the band's hell-raising 2007 smash "Brianstorm." The audience, however, leaves on a high after seeing roughly twice as much Monkey business as they had anticipated. The show is offering a complete episode to a single performer for the first time in 15 years, an honor usually reserved for rock icons like [REM](/topic/rem), Radiohead, [Metallica](/topic/metallica), and Oasis.

Alex added about the ‘Hello You’ track on ‘The Car’ – which contains the lyric: ‘I could pass for 17 if I just get a shave / And catch some Zzzs’: “I think that song is pretty on the nose… “Wait, it wouldn’t be a PDF, would it? “So much of this new music is scratching at the past and how much of it I should hang on to.”

Their new album 'The Car' changed it all. | iHeart.

“There’s something that happens at the end of that track where we break some rules in a single moment. Although it's kind of hard to believe this will be the band's first stadium tour, frontman Alex Turner admitted that he doesn't think they were "mentally ready" until now. Turner went on to explain how he thinks songs on The Car have the same magic as "A Certain Romance" on their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not.

“There’s something that happens at the end of that track where we break some rules in a single moment. We focused on the [emotional] effect of the instrumentals over the words – and I feel like we’ve been trying to do that again and again since then.” Although it's kind of hard to believe this will be the band's first stadium tour, frontman Alex Turner admitted that he doesn't think they were "mentally ready" until now.
