Councillor Mackey has been proposed twice to chair Central Bedfordshire Council in the past two years. “I think that both my local profile, clear track record and approach to politics allows me to offer a credible and realistic alternative to the status quo. Councillor Mackey believes: “I’m someone to whom the people of Mid Bedfordshire can turn. “There’s a tangible fear of the future, a dread of the present and a crying need for real leadership. “As our political system appears to be unravelling before our eyes, the effect on the people is clear,” said councillor Mackey in his Facebook post. Independent Flitwick councillor Gareth Mackey took to social media to announce that he intends to stand as a candidate at the next General Election.
