Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Huddersfield Town vs Sunderland from the John Smith's Stadium. Huddersfield Town vs A win in West Yorkshire could lift Sunderland back into the top half of the table but defeat would see Huddersfield move to within three points of them. And no Michut, who is absent from the squad after picking up a groin problem at Luton. [Sunderland](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/sunderland-afc) travel to West Yorkshire having won just one of their last eight matches and [Tony Mowbray](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/tony-mowbray) will be keen for the Black Cats to start looking back up the table rather than nervously over their shoulder at the relegation battle. They take on a Huddersfield side who are bottom of the league but have lost just twice in the six matches since new head coach Mark Fotheringham succeeded Danny Schofield as the club's manager.

Huddersfield Town lineup to face Sunderland: Lee Nicholls; Brodie Spencer, Michal Helik, Yuta Nakayama, Josh Ruffels; David Kasumu, Etienne Camara, Jack Rudoni; ...

Jackson to take from the left - on his right foot! The latter slips Spencer in again to cross, and it's blocked - corner on the right. It's given away, but Camara wins it back and sends Jackson up the left, but his cross is cleared. "And then there will be times when the best they can do is maintain their position. It comes to nothing as Rhodes can't find space to shoot or play in Rudoni, but Town are keeping the pressure on well here. Good ball from Pritchard to tee up Amad inside the box.

Manchester United's Amad Diallo finally starting to shine at ... (The Athletic)

[Premier League](https://theathletic.com/football/premier-league/) signing of the 2021 winter window, but if nothing else, the stagnation has to cease. [Amad Diallo](https://theathletic.com/football/player/amad-diallo-YyWRJzwoC9GtsJsA/) was the last player to leave the sodden pitch at the John Smith’s Stadium, milking the acclaim of 2,500 travelling supporters. There is close control and a low centre of gravity that heavy opponents cannot enjoy. Less so in the opening stages at Huddersfield last night as long spells passed the winger by in a first half best remembered for the torrential rain that swept through West Yorkshire. One touch inside the box cracked open a functional Huddersfield defence with ease. [Sunderland might just be the temporary home Amad requires.](https://theathletic.com/3648582/2022/10/03/mowbray-sunderland-tony-manager/) The Stadium of Light has become a rescue home for the once-expensive, lost attackers, with Sunderland seeing the enduring value in drifters. And it is being earned in an improving campaign. [Jack Clarke](https://theathletic.com/football/player/jack-clarke-PjA0msqncVVEMolT/) and Roberts have reignited their careers after being weighed down by price tags in their teenage years. That was Amad’s 64th and final touch of the game, the most he has had in a Championship game this season. He just has to play football and enjoy it.” This has undeniably become a big season for Amad.

It was a game to match the weather. By Phil Smith. 3 minutes ago - 3 min read.

It was a counter of serious quality and notable that just a day after Mowbray had spoken with genuine relish about pairing up From that moment there was no way he was leaving the pitch until he'd had the last word. And how he managed that, a first-time finish that was followed by his fingers placed pointedly in his ears. Mowbray, though, had sat in his pre-match press conference late last week and said that for now his team just had to find a way. There is an exciting future on the horizon, full of defensive depth and actual strikers but for now it remains just out of reach. And it was for sure in part down to

On the final day of the season, a memorable day against Reading at CCS saw the Bluebirds secure second spot and their place in the Premier League for the following campaign. In 2005, Whitley made the switch to the Welsh capital, making 38 appearances in his debut season as a Bluebird, before spending his second year on loan at Stoke City and Wrexham. Having spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light, the winger joined Sunderland on a permanent transfer in July.

The Robins are flying, Coventry are pointless, and the A1 derby boils over. Another normal week in tier two.

But the final word goes to Coventry United’s long-suffering radio commentator and Twitter hot-take merchant extraordinaire, Paul Wheeler. But it was the Palace stopper who went in the book. Last season the Eagles were left battered, bruised, and whining on Twitter about some robust but ostensibly fair challenges from the hard-tackling Wearsiders. Oh, won’t somebody think of the children!!! Leave them alone for a minute and they’re at each other's necks. Durham and Palace...

Sydney or Sunderland? Dwight Yorke didn't mind - and even at the tail-end of his career, he was still a cracking player for us. Happy birthday, marra!

There is no doubting the contribution that he made to Sunderland between 2006 and 2009. I rang him, I said ‘Yorkey do you fancy coming to Sunderland?’ He said ‘Are you serious?’ and I said yeah. I knew he’d lighten the mood, the players would like him, the staff loved him because he was coming in on the morning and always seemed happy. I knew he would be a big help and the players loved him. At this stage, he was playing as a holding midfielder using his knowledge and wealth of experience to get him through games. When Roy Keane arrived at Sunderland, there was a clear sense he was buying players that he trusted.
