'The Holiday' Isn't Getting a Sequel, but That Won't Stop Us From ... (Vanity Fair)

Nancy Meyers and Kate Winslet have debunked rumors about a follow-up, which makes for one Christmas wish that won't come true.

As Jack Black’s Miles mystically promises: “Legend has it, when the Santa Anas blow, anything can happen.” Perhaps no one is more surprised by The Holiday’s cultural staying power than Meyers herself, who said the movie “was not a hit” upon its initial release. But The Holiday is so readily primed for a sequel, even if it doesn’t exist yet. Does Graham still “have a cow and sew”? “I read something about that, but it’s the first I’ve heard of it,” she said about a potential follow-up. “I promise you not an agent or a representative or anyone from the first one around has had any conversation with me about that. “So many DM’s about this - sorry but it’s not true,” the film’s writer-director wrote on Instagram alongside a screenshot of a Daily Mail tweet about the reported sequel, prompting more than 1,500 solemn, even outraged comments in a matter of hours.

Fake News About 'The Holiday 2' Is a Reminder Not to Trust the ... (W Magazine)

For a brief moment this morning, the Internet believed The Holiday, director Nancy Meyer's beloved 2006 holiday romcom, was getting a sequel.

The report originated in the British tabloid The Sun (owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp). Earlier this year, she signed on to direct an untitled ensemble comedy for Netflix. Reports claimed The Holiday 2’s deals were all but done, and that male leads Jude Law and Jack Black were also set to return. Another British tabloid, The Daily Mail, further amplified the story by repeating The Sun’s apparently dubious reporting. A return to romantic comedies being in the works wasn’t too far off.
