Going into the break a goal to the good, it took just two minutes for the lead to be doubled. North End’s No.10 picked out Evans in the box, and he made no mistake in finding the bottom corner. North End took the lead on 17 minutes when Evans played the perfect ball through to his fellow countryman Woodburn, who took the ball in his stride before calmly slotting past Thomas Kaminski, and he wheeled away to celebrate in front of the home support.

Report: Blackburn Rovers humbled by Preston North End at Ewood (Lancashire Telegraph)

Ched Evans scored twice, with Ben Woodburn and Ben Whiteman also on target for North End who were given a helping hand by some desperately poor Rovers defending ...

The game had been up for Rovers for some time though, with Rovers suffering a first home defeat in three months in the most disappointing of fashion. Things hadn’t improved from a Rovers point of view, still unable to gain a foothold in the game as Whiteman flashed a shot wide of the target in the 52nd minute. At the other end, Dom Hyam made a good block to deny Brad Potts as he got free of Wharton in the area, as the pattern of Rovers failing to clear their lines continued. Rovers were second best by a good margin, looking unsettled in and out of possession, with Preston much the hungrier. It is the first time since August that Rovers have suffered back-to-back defeats, and only a third Ewood loss of the season, but a worrying performance to follow up the disappointment of the Bradley Dack had pulled one back for Rovers to make it 2-1, with Jon Dahl Tomasson then making a double switch, but that had the opposite effect to the one he would have hoped as two goals in three minutes from North End added a comfortable look to the scoreline.

Preston North End player ratings vs Blackburn Rovers: Evans and ... (Accrington Observer)

Having set the tempo early doors and rocked Jon Dahl Tomasson's men, it was Ben Woodburn who showed the coolest head inside Ewood Park - to break the deadlock ...

Had that drive back in his game and brought real quality to the performance in all departments. Him and Woodburn were outstanding behind Evans and his touch to set up Whiteman for the fourth goal was exquisite. Such a dynamic option down the left flank with his drive and speed. Complete performance in midfield from the number four and a wonderful goal to top it off. Played out from the back well, defended properly and guided Fernandez through the game with his experience. Was a threat in the opposition box and defended his own well on the whole.

Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe on Blackburn Rovers victory (Lancashire Telegraph)

Ryan Lowe says Preston North End's positive approach paid off during their 4-1 win against Rovers at Ewood Park.

“Defensively, we were sound but one ball and Pottsy (Brad Potts) has tried to see it out. I thought we were unbelievable in terms of the final third, getting shots away and creating some opportunities. “Credit to the group because they took it on board. “Blackburn are a fantastic team, they have got some good players. “But we have got belief in the group and the third goal was vital.” Lowe says they had identified areas where they could “jump” Rovers in possession and was delighted with how his players executed the gameplan.
