What happened to April Jones? Mystery of murdered five-year-old ... (Yorkshire Live)

A new Channel 4 documentary series will look at the abduction and tragic disappearance of five-year-old April Jones tonight (Monday, December 12).

Bridger pleaded not guilty to the charge of murdering April Jones but accepted that he was "probably responsible" for her death. He appeared at Aberystwyth Magistrates' Court on October 8 and was then charged with unlawful concealment and disposal of a body. On March 27, 2013 the search, which had continued for months, was called off after officers were unable to locate her body. The first officer on the scene spoke to a child witness who reported seeing April getting into a grey vehicle. Around 20 minutes after her mum allowed her to leave the house, Coral set out to search for her. April disappeared on October 1, 2012 after she was seen getting into a vehicle near her home in Machynlleth.

The Disappearance of April Jones, review: hard to watch, impossible ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

This is a respectful addition to the true crime genre, packaged like a drama but involving April's family and the local community.

The tiny town is central to the story, because it is so close-knit that April’s disappearance was deeply felt by everyone. It takes the time to build up a picture of Machynlleth in Wales, where five-year-old April Jones was abducted in October 2012. But The Disappearance of April Jones (Channel 4) is a documentary so compelling that I couldn’t tear myself away.
