Leeds United vs Real Sociedad live updates from Elland Road (Leeds Live)

The Whites step up their Premier League restart preparations this evening with a friendly against the La Liga side.

The ex-Man City man takes a swipe at thin air, though, and the chance goes begging. The 4-3-3 is certainly helping Kristensen more in getting forward, but the visitors aren't being penned back for any lengthened section of time. Sociedad failed to really cause them problems and they were able to see the game out to pick up their second mid-season friendly result. Aaronson is typically busy. This time for a pitch invader. Gelhardt isn't stripped but he's warming up, too.

Report: Leeds United 2-1 Real Sociedad (Leeds United)

Whites beat La Liga side in friendly. Friendly. Leeds United 2 (Struijk 16', Rodrigo 58'). Real Sociedad 1 (Zubimendi 10'). Leeds ...

Shortly into the second half and Marsch’s side would go ahead in the game! The La Liga outfit had an opportunity to hit back quickly. Many years his junior and wearing a United shirt, Willy Gnonto also had an effort at goal when well placed, but couldn’t hit the target either. Coming into this one, they faced a talented Real Sociedad side who sat third in the table, only behind Real Madrid and Barcelona. Brais Mendez - top scorer for the away side so far this season - turned provider as he whipped in a dangerous cross, right onto the head of Martin Zubimendi. It wouldn’t be long before Marsch’s side hit back though, and in superb fashion.

Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville opens up on his ... (Daily Mail)

'If I can keep going, that is the plan.' And it was Leeds' plan for Summerville — who was born in Rotterdam to Surinamese parents — which persuaded him to leave his boyhood club, Feyenoord, in 2020. Summerville also hopes he will be dancing at the next World Cup with the Netherlands, who he represents at Under 21 level and with whom he won the U17s Euros in 2018. That is bound to be the case again on December 28, when Manchester City visit Elland Road, with fans having been starved of home Premier League action for seven weeks. Indeed, Summerville has been something of a pet project for Marsch since he was appointed in the spring. In the Anfield aftermath, the Leeds boss told the youngster he was going to be keeping a close eye on him to ensure his standards did not slip. 'He always told me if you work hard for me, I'll work hard for you to get you in the team, so that's what I'm doing. And Marsch believes Summerville has benefited from the professionalism and maturity of Leeds' new Italian forward, who at 19 is actually two years younger than his team-mate. But while Bielsa would have happily granted his wish, the club insisted on Summerville staying. It is strange to think now, but Summerville had not even scored for Leeds before he netted the consolation in a 3-2 home defeat by Fulham in October. 'I am young and still learning, but I have to keep in check with the older players. 'As a young kid, you dream of playing in the Premier league,' says the Dutchman in his first English newspaper interview. Little could he have imagined that he would have just as much to celebrate the following week.

It’s sure to be a close contest again next week in the last of Leeds United’s mid-season friendlies, and it will certainly be a good barometer to see how Leeds compare to Real Sociedad and AS Monaco, and to see where we are in terms of preparations for the visit of Pep and his Premier League champions. Brazilian striker Sonny Anderson scored the game’s only goal from a deflected free-kick after 23 minutes, but a string of fine saves from Lukic denied French striker Mickael Madar, who later played for Everton, and in the end, the euphoric sheen of the first leg was barely detectable as Leeds meekly proceeded to the next round 3-1 on aggregate. Leeds fans of a certain vintage will have fond memories of our friends from the French Riviera, as our previous meeting served up a stellar European night back in 1995. Leeds made plenty of changes in the second half and turned things round, with goals from Joe Gelhardt and a beauty from Mateusz Klich winning the match 2-1, and securing the widely coveted Festa d’Elx trophy into the bargain. And the peculiarity of this season doesn’t end there, because before the intensity of Premier League action resumes against Manchester City at Elland Road on December 28th, we make a tentative return to the relatively tranquil domain of European football. The pre-season fixture against Serie B side Cagliari at the end of July was something of a canter, even if our brief second half brain-freeze put an over-generous slant on the 6-2 scoreline.

Leeds United 2-1 Real Sociedad: Hey fellas • The Square Ball (The Square Ball)

I hope as many kids as possible were down the park on Saturday morning trying to score a copy of Pascal Struijk's strike.

Him and Jesse need to go out and get drunk together or something and realise they’re a couple of fellas with a lot the other might like. For some reason Michael Salisbury was allowed to referee this game after playing to 1950s rules in our defeat at Spurs before the break, with the benefit that Jesse Marsch was pulled out of the shyness with which he met ‘give us a wave’ chants from the South Stand — an uncertain little hand, eventually — and into his preppy fury, haranguing the fourth official while Salisbury made his daft decisions. Anyway, Leeds have looked good in this shape when it’s popped up mid-game in the Premier League, and after trying some diagonal one-two-three towards goal in the first half and fluffing, Wilf Gnonto on the left passed to Joffy Gelhardt in the middle, who thought about Klich the accelerating square but went for a braver diagonal towards Rodrigo on the edge of the penalty area. Cold on the pitch, but about to be colder on the bench, he was leaving with warm muscles and a good impression. After a confusing time in the Sociedad penalty area, Marc Roca laid the ball up on the edge of the box and the left-back gave his half-volley the full Ajax Academy experience.
