Coventry City player ratings vs Swansea: Second half collapse sees ... (Coventry Live)

Coventry City gave up a three goal lead to Swansea at the CBS Arena where they were lucky to settle for a point after an incredible second half fightback ...

Took the captain’s armband and led by example in terms of work-rate and set up O’Hare for a decent chance in the first 20 minutes. Cut inside to get an early shot off, only to be denied by a low save from the keeper as the big Swede led the line on his own. Put the occasional decent ball into the box and was denied by the keeper at the near post after a terrific turn and shot in the box. Showed terrific energy and movement in the final third where he pressed relentlessly out of possession and found pockets of space to cause problems with the ball at his feet. And seven minutes later in the 54th, Allen and O’Hare combined to feed Gyokeres who twisted and turned his way into the box and hit a powerful finish that went in off the post to make it 3-0. Vocal and organising at the back where he was a real leader alongside his two younger defenders in the back three. Swansea got one back in the 68th minute when Ryan Manning broke free down the left and sent in a square ball to the six-yard box where Joel Piroe was on hand to tap home unmarked as the visitors attempted a fight-back. Effective when playing deep and going forward in the final third, and took responsibilty for most of City’s set-pieces, sending in some decent deliveries, not least for Panzo’s goal. A decent outlet down the left flank all afternoon. A slick three-man move resulted in Callum O’Hare sending a half volley inches wide in the 22nd minute as the Sky Blues had the better chances, none more so than when O’Hare slipped Gyokeres in behind with just the keeper to beat. But Joel Piroe pulled one back in the 68th minute, swiftly followed by a second from Jay Fulton in the 76th as City looked all at sea. Commanded his area well and showed excellent positioning to catch most of what came his way, albeit not really being tested.

Piroe, Fulton and Cullen strike to earn Swansea a dramatic point at ... (WalesOnline)

The Swans were in disarray for long spells but produced a fine comeback to claim a point.

And the travelling contingent were subjected to a series of taunts from the home supporters once again as they fell three goals behind. Following an alarmingly blunt display, Swansea threw caution to the wind and pulled a goal back through Joel Piroe before Jay Fulton rifled home to set-up a tense finish. Callum O'Hare could only drill wide after being left unmarked in the centre of the box from Jamie Allen's cross before Gyokeres' tame effort was straight at Benda. The Swans were second best for long periods at the CBS Arena and fell behind courtesy of Jonathan Panzo's first-half header. What a cross from Grimes and Piroe heads against the post, but Cullen pokes home the rebound! The game represented something of a basketball match in the final stages following a frantic second-half, but neither side found a last-gasp winner as the points were shared in what was the final match before Christmas. The nerves among the home faithful started to jangle as Martin's men pushed, and Swansea were right back in it after fine play from Manning led to Oko-Flex being denied by Ben Wilson, only for Fulton to rifle home the rebound. Swansea were dominant and continued to throw everything at their opponents, and they levelled in the 84th minute as Cullen prodded home from close range after Piroe's header from Grimes' fine cross struck the post. Joe Allen and Harry Darling replaced Ntcham and Kyle Naughton in what was set up to be a miserable final half an hour for the Swans, although that ended up being far from the case as the replacements proved pivotal. And the visitors were once again undone from a set-piece just before the half hour mark as Panzo rose highest to head home Gus Hamer's corner. And substitute Liam Cullen poked home six minutes from time to earn the Swans a share of the spoils following a heroic late effort. The playing styles made for an open game, and the first chance fell to the visitors from a swift counter, although Piroe could only scuff his shot after being teed up by Coventry-born Jamie Paterson.

Cullen, thrown on just a matter of seconds before, was in the right place at the right time to turn in after Piroe’s header had come back off the post, stunning the CBS Arena crowd. Report and free match highlights from the Sky Bet Championship clash between Coventry and Swansea at the Coventry Building Society Arena as goals from Joel ...

We've gone behind in too many games in the last seven and in a lot of those games conceded a set-piece. "The lack of physical contact, lack of aggression in transition is why they came away with so many counter-attacks and Steven (Benda) came to the rescue. I thought for half an hour we were incredible, brilliant, so I'm really grateful and proud for the last half an hour. So it's disappointing and there's a lot of learning to come from it. We kept throwing the ball out and trying to do things quickly as if we needed to score another one, and ultimately we just showed some naivety in terms of what we were doing. "We were 3-0 up and we started to go, 'well this is easy', and started to do things that were totally against what we normally do.

It was the perfect start to the second half for the Sky Blues, as they doubled their lead two minutes after the break a Viktor Gyokeres teed up Jamie Allen and he found the top corner from just outside of the area, leaving Benda with no chance. The best chance of the opening 25 minutes fell for City’s number ten and it was a splendid ball into the box from Jamie Allen and Callum met the ball on the volley, but his strike went narrowly wide. The first effort on goal of the game fell to Viktor Gyökeres, as the Swede was on the end of a Jake Bidwell ball over the top of the Swansea defence and the Swede twisted and turned, before forcing Steven Benda into a good stop.

The Swansea City v Coventry City player ratings as subs make ... (WalesOnline)

This is how the Swansea City players rated in the 3-3 draw with Coventry City at the CBS Arena.

7 Ticked things over well enough without doing any damage in attacking areas. Sublime ball to Joel Piroe in the build-up to Liam Cullen's effort. As is often the case, the captain looked the most likely to open up Coventry with his range of passing. Could only watch Jamie Allen's stunning effort fly into the net and well beaten by Viktor Gyokeres. Read play well time and time again to deny Coventry in the first half.
