The Millers found the going difficult in the West Midlands as Jed Wallace gave Albion an early lead before subs Grady Diangana and Brandon Thomas-Asante put the ...
It reaped immediate rewards when Albion grabbed a second goal through one of the replacements. The Millers’ afternoon went from bad to worse when Humphreys found himself in a foot race with Thomas-Asante, and the Albion striker got himself in front of the Millers defender, who bundled him to the floor in the box, and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Furlong’s throw down the line was missed by Thomas-Asante and Wallace – often a tormentor of the Millers – drilled a lovely centre into the box and Diangana got in front of Norton-Cuffy to direct a point-blank effort goalwards and Johansson was beaten, despite getting a hand to his shot. Boss Matt Taylor made two changes to his starting line-up. The Millers were on the back foot at the start of the second half and Furlong launched a long-throw into the box which skimmed off the head of Harding, but fortunately for the Millers, it smashed into the side netting. On a bitterly cold afternoon, Albion were quick out of the blocks and Wallace skipped down the flank to find Daryl Dike, who pulled the ball back into a dangerous area but a retreating Rotherham defender hacked the ball clear before Conor Townsend’s ball released Matt Phillips, who burst away, but Viktor Johansson gathered his cross at the front post.

Not a whole lot to do in the first half, even when Rotherham warmed to the task and began to get on the ball. Some of his decision making - he should've passed to Wallace when having a shot blocked - wasn't quite right. Was involved in lots of moves down the left and, although it was offside, went close with a brilliant headed effort. Faded a little in the second half but you'd hope that he'll come on for this extended run-out. Wanted the ball and combined well with Rogic as Albion began to break through Rotherham's defensive lines. There were moments of class from Rogic, who was rewarded with a start after Monday. Came close when meeting a corner from Swift found him at the back post. After wandering from the touch-line into the penalty area, Diangana was on hand to slot home the Baggies' second from Wallace's terrific centre. The striker, with Karlan Grant on the bench, converted it himself at the second attempt. Okay Yokuslu, the defensive minded midfielder, drilled a stinging shot just wide of the post, and he also flicked a header over from a corner, too. Like at Sunderland, he turned to his bench and his Midas touch was evident again. Albion caught Rotherham off in the midfield and Rogic's superb ball, slipped through the defence, was latched onto by Wallace, who duly converted after scampering past his man.
