The Whites step up their preparations for the Premier League restart this evening as they welcome Ligue 1 side Monaco to Elland Road.
He curls a free-kick onto the roof of the net. The Italian can't find the target with his effort, though. Leeds have the chance to pull one back. Gnonto looked to make things happen every time he touched the ball, too, and eventually won the penalty late on. He's expected to name something close to his strongest starting XI and we're bound to get an insight into his selection thinking as the restart nears. Marsch will be happy with elements of the performance, particularly the first half showing, but they were far too sloppy at times, too. Welcome along to this evening's live Leeds United coverage as the Whites host AS Monaco in their final friendly before the Premier League restart. The ball is nodded down to the unmarked Jakobs on the penalty spot and he fires it into the roof of the net. The striker receives the ball on the penalty spot, but he lost the ball as he tried to turn his man. Both sides are struggling to keep hold of the ball for a sustained period and there's no real rhythm. He rises highest to meet a Greenwood corner, but he can't find the target with his glancing header. Monaco recover to deal with his cross into the box, but the ball drops to Gnonto on the edge of the area.

Leeds United have made 6 changes to their starting lineup ahead of their final winter friendly against AS Monaco this evening.
But the team is likely to resemble what type of side Marsch will put out for that game in advance, and that means we should see a marked improvement and plenty of hunger from the players who are looking to claim their place in the side where they wouldn’t usually be considered regulars. Monaco are a very good side and will look to keep the ball, much like Manchester City will do when we return to Premier League action next week and this will be good preparation. Much like the previous friendlies against Elche and Real Sociedad, the result isn’t a big deal but it’s all about the performance for Leeds and Jesse Marsch.
Jesse Marsch oversees Leeds United's final mid-season friendly tonight against Monaco, as his side work towards the Premier League resuming on December ...
Crysencio Summerville and Jack Harrison have picked up a knock, too, whilst Tyler Adams will be suspended for the Premier League game with Man City. Willy Gnonto has a similar hybrid role in that he pushes high and narrow in possession, yet drops deep and wide when Leeds are defending, whilst Brenden Aaronson’s role in the side comes on the left of Rodrigo, albeit with the duty of pushing up alongside the Spaniard to set the tone with the pressing Marsch wants to see. As our graphic below underlines, we are expecting Marsch to field a side tonight that’s going to be as close to the Leeds XI as we will get against Man City.

Groans met Monaco's second, less than two minutes after the restart. Once Monaco's fourth went in and the visitors kicked off the substitute-fest, Leeds went to a 4-2-3-1 and Gnonto’s determination to get on the scoresheet saw him hacked down for Gelhardt to score a penalty from the final kick. When Leeds had the ball, Rasmus Kristensen bombed on to leave a back three of Luke Ayling, Robin Koch and Pascal Struijk, and otherwise it was down to Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood, from the right of a midfield three, to make light of the absence of a right-winger.

Gelson Martins was well positioned and found space at the back post, giving him time to slot into the back of the net. The constant forward pressure did pay off late in the match. Things would get worse as the away side continue to flood forward. Just a minute later, the Whites were nearly back in front. The first half saw Leeds on top for large parts, creating chances and causing problems for their visitors. With Monaco’s first real attack of the match, they equalised.

Here are our player ratings after Leeds United's friendly defeat to Monaco at Elland Road on Wednesday evening.
However, he looked a little rusty when he came on during the second-half. He played on the right of the midfield three. However, it is alarming that there were a couple of poor passes when trying to get out of trouble. He has the quality to make things happen out of nothing. And he stood out as a class act in the first-half. And, unsurprisingly, he worked so hard for the team. It probably was not the best sign that Leeds went from 1-1 to 4-1 down inside 10 minutes after his introduction. He should have also scored during the first-half when he was served a glorious chance. But a decent run-out as he seemingly prepares to replace Tyler Adams next week. He did not appear to see a lot of the ball. It is certainly a worrying thought that Jesse Marsch may be preparing for the full-back to start there against Manchester City. A terrible 10 minute period and not having a striker really cost the Whites.
