But with the final taking place, many fans of the tense gameshow will be wondering if the BBC show will be returning for another series. After weeks of the treacherous game, Thursday's final saw the five finalists make their last banishments in a bid to win the £100000 jackpot.

We are horrified, we are thrilled, we are captivated, we are repulsed, we are aroused. Not so with The Traitors. So, then, The Traitors. We like to peer through the bars at the reality TV zoo of our own species, because what we find there simultaneously attracts and repels us. The two questions are inextricably linked, in my opinion.

Despite Claudia’s best efforts to crank up the drama, Kieran is ready to fall on his sword – as Hannah says to him at one point: “You look like you’re about to explode with guilt.” But whether you want the Traitors to win or you’re, as they say, 100% Faithful, this has been the reality TV highlight of the year. The mission, a heart-pounding treasure hunt around a Scottish loch (of course), involves two people jumping out of a helicopter, a hurtling speedboat, riddles, digging in sand and someone shouting into a tiny megaphone. He rallied (just) while the others banished Maddy, but within 10 minutes of the final episode his precarious position is clearly weighing on his mind. Of course, the final episode ramps up the heat even further. As the old saying goes: keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

After a weeks of tension, the series finale of The Traitors aired on BBC One last night, revealing the winners and who was actually a traitor.

This meant Aaron, Hannah and Meryl were crowned the winners of the show. The three traitors were picked at the beginning of the series by Claudia, and had to keep their identity a secret from the rest of the group, aka the faithfuls. And whilst we're gutted one of our favourite shows of the year has come to an end, the viewers (us included) could not be more happy with the outcome of the series finale.

BBC's The Traitors, a psychological reality show presented by Claudia Winkleman, filmed at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands, has gripped the nation.

The castle and estate properties have been extensively renovated too. In 1937, the estate was broken up and sold. The 1st Duke of Sutherland bought Ardross in the late 1700s, and built a hunting lodge. Matheson purchased Ardross, amounting to 60,000 acres, for £90,000, and he set about developing the estate with the intention of attracting tenants to agricultural tenancies. The castle is not open to the public but it is available for exclusive hire, for both corporate and private clients. Watching the players come to their conclusions about who is a Traitor is pure drama, and some people are so good at influencing the group even if their convictions are totally off!'

The hit TV show has showcased the 19th century Highlands castle and its expansive grounds.

The show sees contestants battle against one and other to discover who is a faithful and who is not in a bid to win up to £120,000. However, The Traitors has put the castle firmly on the map as a famous landmark. The grounds of the castle also offer opportunity for a range of activities including a GPS Treasure Quest as well as a range of country sports.

The contestants fondly referred to their friendship from the show as their 'trauma bond'.
