The worst congestion is predicted to be between noon and 1pm today. Rail strikes are likely to have an impact on traffic as RMT union members stage a walk out between 6pm on December 24 and 6am on December 27. Known as 'the prettiest girl in Bradford', Kitty Breaks led something of a double life.

During the trial, he seemed to not be aware of what was happening in the court and perhaps his detached demeanour was a symptom of his shell shock. Billed as a crime of passion it soon became evident Holt was in it for the money. He was described as having a good humoured relationship with the warders and was almost jovial in his demeanour. He told the court that Holt owned two revolvers and that when he was taken ill in 1915 the revolvers were not seen again. He was handsome, dark and decidedly unmoved throughout the proceedings and turned up to court each time in a smart suit. A pair of bloodied men's gloves were also found at the scene, and it did not take detectives long to establish they belonged to Holt. She checked into the Palatine Hotel and dined in the restaurant before catching a tram to St Anne's to meet her lover. Despite the trauma he had endured, Holt settled back into life in his home town and enjoyed the freedoms of a post-war society. He was known to enjoy jazz and sport, and was cheerful and frivolous - with a darker side buried beneath the surface. The body was soon identified, for Kitty's bank book was still in her coat pocket, along with a large bundle of cash, but how had this stylish woman from Bradford come to be here, shot to death in the sand dunes? In modern times we would say he had PTSD but in the early 20th century, it was simply known as shell shock. Kitty's body was punctured with four bullet wounds and beside her lay a pair of man's gloves and a revolver.

If your way of celebrating the festivities as a family includes lots of activities, it will work in your favour to keep these for the afternoon and have a calm atmosphere for the evening. However, it can sometimes feel as though there’s nothing to prepare them for bedtime on Christmas Eve, resulting in a restless night’s sleep. If you plan on watching a Christmas film together as a family on the evening to keep things calm, it’s best to switch the screens off around two hours before your children’s bedtime. It’s a must to make sure your child isn’t going to sleep on an empty stomach – and if you have many activities planned on the day, they may be too occupied to realise just how hungry they are. Not only will you avoid the protest to staying up for longer, but it helps them transition into their bedtime routine easily. Whether it’s a family walk or perhaps their favourite sport, taking the little ones for some morning exercise will promote better sleep at night by burning off energy.

"By far the greatest leap in footfall from last Saturday of 26.4% occurred in retail parks, which is clearly a result of customer demand for food and grocery shopping. “I’ve got some friends in London, if I need to I’ll be like ‘hey, I’m coming to crash on your sofa’. Huge crowds, horrifically disorganised and no urgency or information from staff. Examples of last train times on Saturday ahead of the strikes included 10.45am for Leeds to London, 11am for London to Edinburgh and 12.48pm for London to Manchester. It said there would be “significantly reduced services across the rail network”. There was little disruption on the first day of the walkout on Friday as armed forces personnel were deployed to check passports, and passengers posting on social media shared similar experiences on Christmas Eve. "Footfall across all UK retail destinations was 1% higher than on December 23 and 9.2% higher than on the previous Saturday when there were rail strikes also. This pattern of footfall is unusual for Christmas Eve, as typically footfall peaks on December 23 and is then lower on Christmas Eve as people travel to their Christmas destinations. "The uplift from last Saturday is a result of consumers not being able to reach their chosen shopping destination due to the rail strikes on December 17, and many people would have opted to travel yesterday to avoid the possibility of not being able to reach their chosen destination. Figures showed the strikes also impacted on the numbers of people travelling to central London and other city centres across the UK for last minute Christmas shopping.
