All I can do is keep working hard every day and try to get the lads performing to the best of their ability." Norwich's Dean Smith: "I understand the frustration and I understand their anger. We looked the team who were pressing to get the winner. He had only been on as a substitute for three minutes when he took one touch in the box to set himself before firing high into the net. I thought we were the better team and looked really strong and threatening. But credit to the lads who kept pushing.

Team News | Hatters to take on Norwich City (lutontown.co.uk)

Manager Rob Edwards has made one change for his first home game in charge against Norwich City.

Carlton Morris scored the winner in the last meeting against the Canaries back in October and starts up front again with Elijah Adebayo. There is a single change amongst the substitutes - with Cauley Woodrow fit and returning to the matchday squad ahead of midfielder Louie Watson. The changed is an enforced one, with the suspended Amari'i Bell replaced by Dan Potts - who starts in the Sky Bet Championship for the first time since he was forced off through injury against Blackpool last month.

Report | Luton Town 2-1 Norwich City (lutontown.co.uk)

Cauley Woodrow returned from injury and scored a dramatic winner against Norwich City to give Rob Edwards the perfect start at Kenilworth Road.

There was further drama when Alfie Doughty headed clear off the line in added time to preserve the three points. Isaac Hayden shot over for Norwich 76 minutes, and the Hatters were reduced to ten men with Osho shown a second yellow card with ten minutes to go for pulling back Pukki on the edge of the box. Town made a deserved breakthrough in the 61st minute when Campbell robbed Giannoulis 30 yards from the Norwich goal and strode forward to fizz a beauty past Gunn, low into the corner of the Canaries net.

We didn’t control the game against a fairly average Luton. [#ncfc] [December 26, 2022] This last 2 years or so has properly made me fall out of love with the club— Tom Friskey (@tomfriskey) I'm happy to be getting rid of my season ticket next year. The kindest thing would be for him to be dismissed before Friday to avoid it getting nasty. [#NCFC] [December 26, 2022]

EFL Championship 2022/23: Luton Town vs Norwich City - tactical ... (totalfootballanalysis.com)

This is our tactical analysis of Luton Town and Norwich City. Read our tactical analysis of Luton's victory over the inconsistent Norwich.

At times, when Luton’s manpower was loaded in Norwich’s half, their counter-pressing was also one of the elements to add to this game. Following the red card, Luton was able to operate in tight areas and execute fast passes to escape the situation. In Edwards’ first home game in charge of the Hatters, just 39 days after taking over, it seemed that he would have to settle for a point. Luton was at ease with the ball in their half, with the majority of their players anticipating the opposition. The energy used in the ineffective press had a greater influence on the team’s overall energy to continue attacking. The left-back is just given the space to do anything after beating the first wave of the press. They passed the ball until the press was suppressed and used long balls to win duels in the opponent’s half. Norwich was fortunate to get the lone goal when Potts misread and ended up committing in the duel. He’s in the centre of the triangle in the image above, with little room to manoeuvre. The attackers were unable to assist his lone teammate who was in a 2v1 situation. This was one of the rarest times he used a 5-3-2 formation to make the team more dynamic in the game. The graphic below depicts a scenario wherein he lays it off to the area where his teammate will end up and shoot.

"We got back into the game, and had a golden chance with Luton having a man sent off. To go into half-time at 0-0, I expected better in the second half. But we lose it with two stupid goals. "It was a scrappy game," Smith said. "I felt like it broke down too often, and I felt Adam could make it stick a bit better, and felt Josh could do well in behind them. But Luton would go on to score the winner through Cauley Woodrow's last-minute strike.

Had defended with real intent for large parts of the game, as Luton kept a strong Canaries side at arm's length. Early set-piece was almost turned in to give Luton the lead, before his terrific free kick nearly put the Hatters ahead, tipped on to the bar by City keeper Gunn. Photo: Liam Smith
