Sunderland vs Blackburn Rovers LIVE (Accrington Observer)

Blackburn Rovers are looking for back-to-back Championship victories against the Black Cats.

They beat Norwich City 2-0 at Carrow Road and are chasing back-to-back wins for the first time since the end of October. Only the third time Markanday has made the bench this season. I hope you've saved some room for a feast of football.

Sunderland vs Blackburn Rovers LIVE (ChronicleLive)

All the latest from the Black Cats' Boxing Day Championship showdown with promotion hopefuls Blackburn Rovers at the Stadium of Light.

[Amad](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/amad-diallo) joined the Black Cats in the summer on a deal that runs until the end of the current campaign although, like most season-long loans, it contains a recall clause which allows his parent club to cut short the loan in the January transfer window if it is not working out. Ross Stewart could return to the starting line up today in what would be a huge boost for the Black Cats, but as always, there are more injury issues to contend with. "He was having his operation to reposition the bone," he said. Hopefully he will keep scoring and creating chances for us." "Footballers generally understand they have a journey in front of them to get fit. While there have been no discussions between the clubs, Hope it was excellent. Mowbray said that Embleton was due to undergo an operation on his ankle today, and will then begin his rehabilitation work. "I think when footballers get a bad injury there's an emotion for them, they can't do what they want to do. [Sunderland]finished fifth and earned their promotion via the play-offs, the first half of the current campaign has been all the more impressive. It won't be easy against a Blackburn side sitting third in the Championship table, and who won the corresponding fixture 2-0 back in October. It's not easy for him, but he's been bright enough.

Sunderland face Blackburn Rovers at the Stadium of Light – and we've got all the action covered.

It’s one of those traditions you only have in England, which is great and I’m looking forward to that challenge. When he’s alongside Daniel Ayala, that’s a solid partnership at the back. He’s been fundamental at the back. “We will be training at Ewood on the evening of the 25th and then travelling to Sunderland. “Thomas Kaminski in goal has been an excellent signing. They have had some heavy defeats.

SUNERLAND 2-1 BLACKBURN - SCOTT WILSON AT THE STADIUM OF LIGHT: Ellis Simms came off the bench to score a last-minute winner for the Black Cats.

It’s the same with Ellis and Everton. That is because we are so young.’ If clubs send young players on loan, they want to know they are playing football and improving.

Sunderland have been the more threatening side so far and forced Blackburn back into a back five there. Blackburn Rovers player ratings as Brereton Diaz and Gallagher ... (Accrington Observer)

Marks out of ten after Blackburn Rovers' Boxing Day clash with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Didn't see anything of the ball in the first half with the game being very scrappy. Seems to be missing a little bit of confidence compared to the early parts of the season. Was guilty of being sloppy in the first half and gave away the penalty kick with a lunge on Stewart. Struggled in the first half but got better after the break. Quiet from an attacking point of view with most of Rovers' attacks coming down the left. Had a sloppy first half on the ball but improved after the break. Won the physical duals in the second half. Didn't give the lively Clarke many sniffs in the second half. Didn't help his team in the first half with some poor decision-making whilst Rovers tried to play out from the back. However, they were cruelly denied a point with Simms showing great composure in the area to get past Dom Hyam before finishing deftly past Kaminski. Whilst Sunderland looked the better side, they lacked a real cutting edge inside the 18-yard box. Despite being ahead briefly, Rovers struggled to find any momentum in the first half.

Made a clumsy tackle for Blackburn’s goal but more than made up for it with his performance throughout the rest of the game. Was so unlucky for the Blackburn goal when he defended the free kick but his header immediately hit Cirkin and rebounded off himself. Drifted in and out of the game though.

Blackburn Rovers' transfer priority clear as Tony Mowbray bravery ... (Accrington Observer)

The talking points from the Stadium of Light after Blackburn Rovers' late 2-1 defeat to Sunderland.

That will frustrate Tomasson because, whatever you thought of the performance, it should have been a draw. In truth, it probably wouldn't be glaring if they had held on for a point but football is defined by the fine margins. Whilst Tomasson took off Dack for Lewis Travis, Tony Mowbray introduced Simms in addition to Stewart and he got the winning goal. That was the only clear-cut opportunity until Simms showed great composure to earn a yard of space in the box and prod home. Bradley Dack had some nice touches but didn't see enough of the ball. Both goals were very soft to give away and Rovers should have cleared their lines earlier. Sam Gallagher and Ben Brereton Diaz were peripheral figures for the entire 90 minutes. After playing well against Norwich, the combination of John Buckley and Tyler Morton was too passive. With Adam Wharton currently out of favour and Jake Garrett raw, Blackburn need an experienced body in central midfield in January. When Rovers have lost and looked poor, it's generally been the midfield that has left them down. [Blackburn ](https://www.lancs.live/all-about/blackburn-rovers-fc)were poor in the first half and perhaps fortunate to be level at the break. The attackers were completely starved of service.

He felt there were no arguments with the decision either. I don’t think Buckley needs to make the challenge. However, they were cruelly denied a point with Simms showing great composure in the area to get past Dom Hyam before finishing deftly past Thomas Kaminski. Stewart was brought down in the box following a challenge by Rovers midfielder John Buckley. Rovers are now eight points adrift of second-placed Sheffield United.
