Helensburgh's Dolly Parton Imagination Library hailed at Holyrood (Helensburgh Advertiser)

THE establishment in Helensburgh of Argyll and Bute's first Dolly Parton Imagination Library has been hailed in the Scottish Parliament.

The initiative has been congratulated at Holyrood by Helensburgh’s MSP, Jackie Baillie, who attended the launch of the hub – alongside a lifesize cut-out of Dolly herself – and who has now lodged a member’s motion which, as this issue of the Advertiser went to press, had been signed by 19 other MSPs from the Labour, Conservative and SNP ranks. As reported in the Advertiser, the reading initiative is being hosted at the Helensburgh Community Hub in East Princes Street and will see children who enrol from birth up to the age of five get the chance to build up a home library of up to 60 books. “My three kids grew up with these books in their hands from a young age, and I can personally share how impactful reading to your kids can be on their success entering school with confidence.” With more than a million new brain connections forming each second, a child’s brain grows faster in their first three years than in any other stage of life. The early childhood period (birth-5 years) is the most influential for a child’s future, providing the foundation for a child to grow, learn, and thrive.
