Leeds United vs Man City highlights and reaction (Manchester Evening News)

Manchester City are back in Premier League action for the first time in six weeks, taking on Leeds United at Elland Road.

It's a question of mentality, we see in training he has the ability to put the ball in the back of the net. Otherwise the players in the middle have to be good. He has to say I'm going to go in front of goal and I'm going to score. A muted finish from the Leeds-born player. While the home fans gave him one last boo, the City fans sung his name in appreciation. All the process we can do is thanks to Rico and Rodri. "I think we demand him a lot, the quality of player he is we demand goals and assists, that's why we push him until the end,. He missed a few chances he knows he has to score, but he helps the team to two assists." Pascal Struijk headed in from a corner to threaten a Leeds comeback, but City saw out the win comfortably. But we miss and have to be focussed on scoring goals." We deserved to be on top, you have to score, that's the rule of football. However, City earned the three points they needed to reduce the gap back to five points tonight, with an entertaining win over [Leeds](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/all-about/leeds-united-fc).

However, nothing more threatened the back of the net, meaning Man City held on to claim the three points in what was a well-contested match. Meslier had initially made a good save to deny Riyad Mahrez, but following in on the rebound to tap home was Rodri to send his side in ahead at the interval. A quick move saw Grealish pick up the ball on the left and pull it back to Haaland again, with the striker slotting powerfully home. With just over 15 minutes remaining, the Whites found a goal back in the match. Jack Grealish was seeing plenty of the ball and he blazed a number of opportunities wide of the goal, after finding himself in dangerous areas. Kevin De Bruyne was the next to see an effort go wide of the goal, before teammate Ilkay Gundogan went even closer, but wide again.

Leeds 1-3 Manchester City: Erling Haaland strikes twice in city of his ... (Sky Sports)

Free highlights and match report as Haaland converts twice from Jack Grealish assists after Rodri opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time; City now up ...

I was a commentator in my own home about the World Cup but nobody was listening to me. We've seen in the training sessions he has the ability to put the ball into the net. Given the reputation he has and how tall he is, but his character is completely the opposite. Man City striker Erling Haaland told Amazon Prime: "I said to my team-mates I could have scored five and that's the truth. We were exceptional in the first half but we wasted opportunities... It was his first Premier League goal of the season and remarkably City's first from open play away from home in five games. The two performances since coming back, against Liverpool [in the Carabao Cup] and today have been great." Leeds had lost by an aggregate score of 11-0 to Man City over the course of their Premier League meetings last season and another heavy defeat looked on the cards before Pascal Struijk pulled one back with 16 minutes to play. City's 16 efforts made for the biggest disparity between two teams in any Premier League game this season. But Rodri's opener (45+1) moments before the break rewarded Man City's supremacy and when Haaland hit the net twice in 13 minutes there was only going to be one outcome. City eventually got their goal on the stroke of half-time, though, with Rodri brilliantly rolling on a De Bruyne pass for Riyad Mahrez before reacting quickest to turn in the rebound from his team-mate's shot. Leeds boss Jesse Marsch had coached Haaland at RB Salzburg earlier in his career but, like so many Premier League managers this season, could find no way to keep the prolific frontman at bay.

Leeds United 1-3 Man City: Erling Haaland scores twice and Rodri ... (Eurosport.com)

Erling Haaland scored his 20th Premier League goal of the season as Manchester City recorded a 3-1 victory over Leeds at Elland Road.

LEEDS 1-3 MAN CITY (PASCAL STRUIJK): Struijk may have just dragged Leeds back into this contest with his second goal of the season! LEEDS 0-2 MAN CITY (ERLING HAALAND): Grealish is alert to steal in and intercept a loose pass from Cooper in the Leeds defence. Grealish crosses and Haaland is at the near post to tuck a first-time shot past Meslier. LEEDS 0-1 MAN CITY (RODRI): City finally have the breakthrough! Lewis rolls a pass across the face of goal but from point blank range Grealish lifts it over the bar! Yes, he is getting into those dangerous positions but for a £100m player you would expect him to have the composure and knack to make the most of such opportunities.

City produce fine display to dismantle Leeds and close gap at the top (Manchester City FC)

Manchester City produced another fine display to beat Leeds United 3-1 at Elland Road.

Rodri, who opened the scoring here, is an expert defensive-midfielder, a player who sits just in front of the back four and offers protection. "It’s a really special moment in my career. The first half was exceptional. And City soon had a third when Grealish and Haaland linked up to devastating effect once again. After hosting Everton, we play six games next month, starting with two against Chelsea, in both the Premier League and FA Cup, and a trip to Southampton in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. There'll be few easier finishes for the Norwegian this season. Then it's three Premier League games in nine days – the Manchester derby at Old Trafford (14 January), before home matches against Tottenham (19 January) and Wolves (22 January). That game is the first of seven in 23 days for City – a remarkable run of fixtures that will go a long way in determining the level of success we have this season. He is unfussy, plays simple passes and is almost always in the right place at the right time thanks to his ability to read the game. 150 - Ederson has won 150 of his 197 games in the Premier League, becoming the quickest player to reach 150 victories in the competition:— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) A City goal felt certain, and it arrived seconds before the break in the form of a swift counter-attack. In fact, his 20 goals would have been enough to secure a share of the Golden Boot in five Premier League campaigns.
