As of now the psychological thriller is available to binge with all four episodes accessible at the same time. The fact that I still live here and can now bring my work home is a massive deal to me. The drama was based in Nottingham, where Vicky is from. Andrea Lowe rounds out the cast as she takes on the role of Bobbi Carter. Airing in four parts, the series explores the relationship between a mother, played by This Is England's Vicky McClure, and the man she believes murdered her daughter. Viewers will recognise Charles from other hit series including Troy: Fall of a City and This Is England '86.

Without Sin review – Vicky McClure is fantastic in this heavyweight ... (The Guardian)

The Line of Duty star is predictably great as she wrestles with the grief of her daughter's murder in a top-notch conspiracy drama.

This isn’t the kind of drama that whacks you with bombshell after bombshell, but instead slowly brings everything to the boil, nudging the temperature up and up. Stella is from the estate, but she and Paul lived in a big, fancy house, and once drove a Range Rover. He requests to be part of a restorative justice programme, in which a mediator reaches out to Stella and Paul for a meeting, with the idea that Charles will atone for his sins and that somewhere, somehow, Stella and Paul may get the answers they need to process what has happened to their family. There is a mess of half-truths to untangle, among family, friends, organised criminals, small-time crooks, lost kids and hopeless adults. Either way, this Nottingham-based four-parter is a very strong entry to the genre, taut and solid and compelling, and it does not outstay its welcome. Charles is hard to read and prone to violent outbursts.

Without Sin, ITVX, review: Vicky McClure is too good for this ... (iNews)

Guilt, tough conversations, tears and sometimes even redemption. Restorative justice — the process within which victims, or the families of victims, ...

But that soon softens, and as Charles is revealed to be a victim of a cruel plan, his anger begins to subside. At the start, when we are to believe he did kill Maisie, he is menacing and hard. After admonishing Stella for being out drinking rather than staying in with her daughter, Charles tells her that he had nothing to do with her murder, that he had been set up to be at the scene, and that another girl, currently missing, was connected to Maisie’s death. The script — and the story, told over four episodes — never goes deep enough to make us care about Stella’s plight. And so, Without Sin transforms from a thoughtful exploration of the depths of restorative justice into a desperate wild goose chase for this other missing girl. Since then, her life has hit a roadblock — she’s left her cushy office job in favour of driving a taxi, she smokes probably too much marijuana and split up with her ex-husband, Paul (Perry Fitzpatrick), though they still share the odd tryst, unbeknownst to his new partner.

Without Sin, review: Vicky McClure leaves Line of Duty behind with ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

McClure and Johnny Harris bring a natural rawness and sense of place to the drama, elevating it beyond standard ITV thrillers.

Screenwriter Frances Poletti, making her series debut here, is a Nottingham native and the sense of place is strong. [Shane Meadows’s This Is England](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/11859462/This-Is-England-Shane-Meadows-on-his-era-defining-drama.html), and it shows. But the central mysteries of what happened to Maisy, and the whereabouts of the other missing girl, keep things going. Charles Stone (Johnny Harris), the man convicted of Maisy’s murder, has expressed a desire to meet Stella as part of the restorative justice scheme. Stella gave up her office job after Maisy’s death and now works as a taxi driver, which can only have been thrown in as a device because driving comes in handy at certain points in the drama. The latter follows the Christmas TV tradition of serving up murder and misery.

Pictured: VICKY MCCLURE as Stella Tomlinson. It's a great watch (Image: ITVX). Johnny Harris plays Charles Stone, the man jailed for the murder.

It's a genuine delight to see the places you know and love appear on the screen and makes a refreshing change to have something filmed locally highlighting the great depth of talent that the city has to offer filmmakers. The gritty crime show could not be more Nottingham if it tried. It's a slow burner rather than giving it all away upfront which is perfect for anyone who loves the thrill of the chase or a bit of suspense. The gritty crime drama is one to watch for its excellent performances from both Vicky McClure and her co-star Johnny Harris. Johnny Harris plays Charles Stone, the man jailed for the murder. Fans have been waiting eagerly for the release of Without Sin, the new four-part series starring Nottingham actor Vicky McClure and directed by Frances Poletti.

Without Sin Ending Explained: Who Killed Maisie Tomlinson? (Den of Geek)

With major finale spoilers, we examine the twists and turns of Vicky McClure's new ITVX drama Without Sin.

We find out relatively early on that Maisie was home alone that night because her dad was out having an affair and her mum was getting drunk at the nearby pub (no parenting awards for those two). He doesn’t actually have anything to do with Maisie’s death, but the lying is a real turn-off for Jessie, who finishes their relationship. It’s only when she ‘rescues’ Cleo from a grotty bedsit and brings her home that Cleo confesses to murdering Maisie. Kelvin owns the riding school Maisie and her grandmother, Stella’s mum Jessie, used to visit together. In the meantime, Cleo had used Maisie’s phone to text Stella, pretending to be Maisie and asking her to come home because she was scared after seeing someone lurking outside. Cleo did say that Teddy never would have allowed the plan to go ahead if he’d known it was his dad the McKellers were framing, but once he found out he didn’t exactly do anything to stop it either.
