Sheffield United have made three changes to their side for this evening's clash with Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

Bogle makes only his second start in 10 months, and his first since October, while youngster Andre Brooks is named on the bench. From the side that beat Coventry City on Boxing Day, in come Jayden Bogle, Jack Robinson and Enda Stevens. That means Newcastle loanee Ciaran Clark is likely to fill in at the centre of defence, with Anel Ahmedhodzic to his right and Robinson to his left.

United have faced a few teams now since they returned to action that are down near the foot of the Championship table, and tonight they come up against another. It is therefore likely to be a tasty contest come 8:15pm, with Blackpool knowing a victory could see them climb out of the relegation zone of the second tier. In Lancashire on Thursday evening though they come up against a Seasiders team that gave them an almighty fright back in October in a match which some dubbed the second ‘Battle of Bramall Lane’.

Blackpool's winless run stretches to eight games after Sheffield ... (Blackpool Gazette)

Goals from Sander Berge and James McAtee handed the promotion-chasing Blades the three points in a game where their superior quality came to the fore.

Moore, Wright Moore, Williams, J. The Seasiders went more and more direct as the minutes went by, Carey going close in the final minute of normal time with his shot being parried by Foderingham before Ekpiteta headed over from the resulting corner. It was an embarrassingly easy goal to concede from Blackpool’s point of view, as McAtee was allowed to sprint from one end of the pitch to the other before slotting past Grimshaw after the Seasiders had wasted a free-kick in a dangerous position. The Norwegian was given far too much time and space in the box after the ball was pulled back, allowing him to pick his spot as he found the far corner with ease. The away side threatened for the first time in the 11th minute and it was a good chance too to open the scoring early on.

Struggled defensively at times against likes of Jayden Bogle and Iliman Ndiaye, but a threat on the left flank at times when he got forwards. Decent work rate on the flanks and was taken off midway through second half. Challenging evening up against the likes of Oliver Norwood, James McAtee and Berge. Flashes in possession from the Arsenal loanee. After the break, the Blades doubled their advantage as Sonny Carey slipped and the visitors counter attacked a Blackpool free kick, with James McAtee breaking forward and slotting past Dan Grimshaw. Grimshaw had to show sharp reflexes to deny Oliver Norwood from distance and tip his effort over the bar. Dealt with what was thrown his way, and left one on one for second goal. Put in a shift defensively. Won header for Ekpiteta's goal as striker grabbed assist. Jayden Bogle could have added a second as the visitors were on top after their goal, but dragged an effort wide. But the Blades went ahead against the run of play as Sander Berge slotted home. Defender got Seasiders back into game with close range finish.

Sheffield United keep pressure on Burnley after seeing off Blackpool (NewsChain)

Goals from Sander Berge and James McAtee did the damage at Bloomfield Road.

Striker Jerry Yates then smashed a long-range effort wide as they searched for a leveller before Foderingham ensured the points late on with a great save to keep out Sonny Carey. This time it was McAtee who coolly found the bottom corner as the Blades all but put the game to bed four minutes after the restart. The visitors piled on the pressure and penned the hosts into their defensive third but it was Blackpool who should have scored the game’s second goal before the break.

EFL goals and round-up: Sheffield United, Sunderland win (Sky Sports)

Sheffield United moved level on points with Championship leaders Burnley as they won 2-1 at Blackpool, while elsewhere there were wins for Middlesbrough, ...

Oxford beat Charlton 3-1 at the Kassam Stadium. Defender John Brayford put Albion ahead in first-half stoppage time. Although Miles Leaburn came off the bench to reduce the deficit in the second half, Oxford substitute Gatlin O'Donkor made sure of the points with a late third. Bradford move up to seventh - and the final play-off position - after beating Harrogate 1-0 in a Yorkshire derby. Exeter sub Timothee Dieng levelled things up again at 3-3 with five minutes left and there was still time for Nombe to score his second of the game to seal a dramatic victory. A late goal from substitute Bobby Kamwa helped Burton win 2-1 at Forest Green to move out of the relegation zone. James Norwood had put the Tykes in front just after the hour, before substitute Admiral Muskwe equalised from a 77th-minute penalty but Cundy had the final say with only four minutes remaining. A third straight league win for the Pilgrims moved them four points clear of Ipswich who fought back with a late equaliser to draw 2-2 at Portsmouth. Colby Bishop had the hosts back in front on the hour, which had looked enough for victory until three minutes left when Conor Chaplin secured a point to take back to Suffolk. Dan Scarr bundled the ball in from a corner in the 33rd minute, which proved enough for victory. Ben Sheaf struck a post for the Sky Blues against opponents who are the lowest-scoring team in the Championship with just 20 goals in 24 games. Millwall dropped out of the play-off places as Bristol City battled to a hard-fought 0-0 draw at The Den.

The Seasiders spoke after his side's narrow 2-1 loss at the hands of the Blades.

“They did have a right go and made life really uncomfortable for them and we’re going to need that. He said: “For me it was just making sure that they had belief that they could get something from the game. But Appleton believes that the spirit his players have shown will serve them well in the second half of the campaign as they aim to preserve their Championship status. Appleton did not go in heavy on his players at the break and instead focused on ensuring belief remained that they could get something from the encounter. His side kept going after going 2-0 down and managed to halve the deficit. Sheffield United have options Paul Heckingbottom can use for first ... (Yorkshire Live)

The Blades boss has had the luxury of rotating his starting XI in two key areas in the last two matches.

With John Egan suspended, Heckingbottom was able to bring Robinson in on the left-hand side of the back three, moving Ciaran Clark inside. All four wing-backs have been used in the last two games, a luxury Heckingbottom has not been afforded up to now. If I don't give him the game time we won't get him back to those levels. We have Jayden and George on the other side as well. And he more than justified that decision with a lovely assist for Tommy Doyle to put the hosts in control. He then used the opportunity in last night's match at Blackpool to freshen those wide defensive areas up further.

They have not won in their last eight games and last picked up three points at the end of October. For all the talk of decent performances, the Seasiders must start turning those into three points and quickly. Berge's goal settled the hosts and McAtee's breakway strike looked to have put the visitors in a comfotable place. The Seasiders pushed for an equaliser, but it never came and the hosts succumbed to a 2-1 loss.
