Premier League fans' half-term reports, part two: Leicester to Wolves (The Guardian)

Fans on the best and worst of the season so far – and who they want to sign in the January transfer window.

And the worst … What we need in the window: More aggression across the pitch. What we need in the window: A right wing-back, someone who can beat a man, cross the ball. I think the winter break, the potential for signings and players not having to hold back will allow us to remove the mental shackles and start flexing. We’ve previously shored up by strengthening in midfield, and the shift to 4-3-3 helped protect the defence, but with Moussa Niakhaté still injured, we could do with more pace and know-how at the back. What we need in the window: Another centre-half and a right-back, plus we could do with a quality centre-forward. In a slew of bizarre Souness signings, the Frenchman topped the list. And De Bruyne and Haaland have been the standout performers. I’m really pleased with the progress the team has made as a unit – but there have continued to be dark days, such as against Brentford, City and Villa. What we need in the window: With injuries up front – longish-term to Jota and Díaz, and now Firmino – another forward was key, especially now we don’t have the luxury of the great Divock Origi to help us out. But we took the points against Villa and Leicester, and now have to build on that. At least we’re in the last eight of the League Cup, although we’re up against the Geordies again …

Wolves v Manchester United: Premier League – live (The Guardian)

Minute-by-minute report: Join Rob Smyth for the action at Molineux, with both teams searching for vital points.

He surged infield from the left, full of intent, and played a nice one-two with Fernandes on the edge of the area. A low cross from the right was played into Rashford, who turned Collins thrillingly in a tight space and smashed a shot that was well blocked by Sa. Neves curls a superb free-kick that is well saved by de Gea, flying to his left to push it away with both hands. United take the corner short to Antony, whose brilliant driven cross towards Shaw is headed off Shaw and behind by Semedo. 90+3 min Jonny’s superb inswinging cross is met by Jimenez, whose header hits Varane and goes behind for a corner. He gives it to Fernandes, whose rising drive from the edge of the D is comfortably saved by Sa. 90 min United break four on two, with van de Beek on the ball. I’m not sure he’s got a case really, and he might just be trying to create a siege mentality for future home games. Marcus Rashford, who was dropped for unspecified disciplinary reasons, came off the bench to score an excellent winning goal full of personality and desire. Wolves did plenty right, and it will be a surprise if they don’t start to clamber out of trouble. Maybe that’s been part of the problem in the past. He’s in a really good place at the moment: confident, positive, happy.

Even team in the Premier League era with that kind of lead has gone on to win the title - though due to the World Cup Arsenal have played fewer matches up to this point. They can easily shoot up the table with a string of good results and will be confident of challenging Man Utd following Ten Hag’s team look pacey and determined but in the past, they have followed up great wins with shaky performances and will hope to avoid doing so again today. Meanwhile, three points for Wolves today would be a huge boost to their hopes of avoiding relegation and would take them out of the drop zone. Brighton 1-4 Arsenal

Man Utd face Wolves in the Premier League on New Year's Eve, so we simulated the game to try and predict the final score.

The in-form winger stayed forward as Wolves attacked the United box, and as Luke Shaw regained possession, the defender launched a ball forward for Rashford to chase. This time the Brazilian scored in the 92nd minute as he rounded the 'keeper and tapped home to make it 4-1 following a rapid counterattack from United. The Brazilian fired a cross across goal, and Christian Eriksen met the ball with a fantastic volley into the far corner of the net. Bruno Fernandes played a through ball for Martial to chase, with the striker going one-on-one with Jose Sa. Ten Hag needed a much better second-half performance from his side, and he got that when Rashford levelled the score just six minutes after the restart. Since Wolves' promotion back to the Premier League in 2018, United have won just three of their eight meetings in the league.

The corner comes in and Casemiro's header is deflected over! However, they've never won three consecutive away trips to today's opponents. Here's everything you need to know about the Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium.

Both those prices look big - and I'll be backing the 4/5 on offer for either to have at least one shot vs Chelsea as part of my That is a reliable set of data pointing to serious flaws in the way Tottenham approach matches. I thought Chelsea looked shaky when defending their box under pressure from corners and free-kicks against Bournemouth, with the Cherries creating a healthy 0.29 worth of expected goals via set-pieces with Lloyd Kelly and Dominic Solanke both missing the target from close range. He comes into this game in the form of his life, scoring four goals in his last five appearances for club and country. There are lots of ways to get Aston Villa on side with your money. Well, the best place to answer such questions revolves around the betting markets, who are giving the Toon around a 3.5 per cent chance of lifting the trophy with 28/1 with Sky Bet on offer. Eventually, a savvy and shrewd side with good defensive nous is going to make Spurs pay. March, who was going off 10/1 to score anytime earlier this season, finally ended a run of 58 games without a goal in the Premier League, scoring with his 69th attempt. Saka has taken his game to the next level in the last 12 months, as seen in the World Cup where he was England's most potent attacker. As is the fact they've scored more than once in just two of those matches - in the wins over Southampton and Crystal Palace. Backing cards looks a profitable angle of attack in a game that should be full-blooded and very competitive for what is Julen Lopetegui's first home Premier League game in charge. They'll be sent out with the same ethos in this one with eyes on stifling United's rhythm.

We simulated Man City vs Everton to get a Premier League score ... (Manchester Evening News)

Manchester City host Everton in the Premier League on New Year's Eve, so we simulated the game to try and predict the full-time score.

FIFA 23 predicts that Man City could overcome Everton with ease on Saturday, winning 5-0 in the simulation. It was a dominant first-half display from City, and they entered the break with a four-goal lead when De Bruyne grabbed his second of the afternoon, drilling a shot into the bottom corner from just outside the box on the right. City took a central free kick short, with Riyad Mahrez laying the ball off to De Bruyne just outside the box. De Bruyne started the move as he picked up the ball deep in the Everton half, and after releasing the ball, the Belgian continued his run forward as his side worked their way into the box. Haaland then hit the post moments after City's second with an acrobatic effort from close range, with Everton struggling to get out of their own half. The striker is well on course to beat the Premier League goalscoring record, and City will be hoping he can continue his goalscoring record against an out-of-form Everton side.

The ball is then delivered to the far post and Iwobi heads behind for a corner, which Tarkowski clears. Pickford dives to his right to push away an effort from De Bruyne. All over at Molineux and Man United have taken the three points to enter the new year in the top four. It’s the first goal of the afternoon and a big one for Palace. The first chance of the game at Craven Cottage. on the final day of the year! And Fulham do now have their breakthrough goal at the Cottage. World class and from Everton’s first shot of the afternoon too. It ends goals at St James’ Park with Newcastle unable to break down the Leeds back line in a goalless stalemate. Pep Guardiola never believed the puff that his team would be champions by 15 points and it’s clear they are really going to have to fight with Arsenal to complete a hat-trick of titles with tough fixtures ahead starting with Chelsea. I don’t want to be in the meetings with them – I don’t care. Jack Grealish, Nathan Patterson and Rodri all needed treatment as the tackles reined in and Everton capitalised on the disruptions in spectacular style. ‘Erling was a bit angry about the first action of the game on his ankle but he deserved the yellow card. Ben Godfrey didn’t give Haaland a moment’s peace even though the Norwegian still managed to get his 27th City goal in only 21 games.
