While Prince George and Princess Charlotte will both take on some of the most important titles eventually, their younger brother Prince Louis is expected to ...

Prince George would also receive a significant title if his father becomes King, as he would take on the Prince of Wales title once he marries. It has also been recently reported that King Charles hopes to one day bestow the Dukedom of Edinburgh to Charlotte - which would make her the Duchess of Edinburgh in her own right. The current holder of the title is Prince Andrew so it would be unavailable to Louis if Andrew was still alive when he chooses to marry. The monarch opted to give the title to Prince Andrew - who was widely regarded to be her favourite son - when he married Sarah Ferguson in 1986. His current and official title is His Royal Highness Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Wales and he sits fourth-in-line to the throne. Looking even further into the future, Prince Louis would be next in line to inherit a historic Dukedom when he marries. However, it is more complicated than that, as the monarch cannot act alone in removing peerage titles. His title will change if he marries or his father becomes the King. So, there were several significant sentimental links for the Queen. "It would be a fitting way to remember the Queen โ€“ who, of course, had the title Duchess of Edinburgh โ€“ and a way for His Majesty to honour the line of succession." It also has a particular sentimental connection to the late Queen. According to tradition, the Duke of York title is given to the monarch's second-oldest son, so if Prince William is on the throne when Louis marries, and the title is vacant - then it is his.
