Cate Blanchett Is Returning To Marvel As Hela (GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT)

Cate Blanchett is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe but she might not be exactly what we were thinking this time.

[Disney+](https://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/topic/disney-2) platform sometime in the first quarter of 2023. Perhaps Hela’s rebellion against Odin turning to a peacetime King of Valhalla succeeded, with maybe the Valkyries (who all died fighting her in mainstream Marvel continuity, except Tessa Thompson) taking her side in the battle? Any number of small decisions could lead to an entirely different story, like one in which Thor and Hela team up or Hela defeats Thor and Loki (Tom Hiddleston). could go back to the events of Thor: Ragnarok, in which Cate Blanchett’s exiled daughter of Odin (Anthony Hopkins)conquered Asgard and ultimately died in its destruction. As narrated and monitored by Uatu the Watcher (Jeffrey Wright), each episode of the series involves key moments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how things might have gone differently. ](https://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/topic/marvels-what-if)Per [Laughing Place](https://www.laughingplace.com/w/articles/2022/10/24/lightbox-expo-recap-marvel-studios-journey-into-animation-with-what-if-and-i-am-groot-directors/), What If…?

The MCU's Hottest Villain Will Return in 'What If...?' Season 2 (The Mary Sue)

Despite only appearing in one film, the Goddess of Death has remained at the top of my list of MCU villains ever since.

Still, as she’s based on the Norse goddess Hel, being the divine representation of death is a pretty integral part of her character, so her trademark black armor and sultry voice will surely still make an appearance in the show. She could even be a ‘goodie’ now—although that for me will detract from her villainous allure. Series director Bryan Andrews confirmed that the actor had already recorded her dialogue for the show, which is [due to release in early 2023](https://www.themarysue.com/marvels-what-if-season-2-release/).
