Swansea City vs Burnley live: Goal and score updates from ... (Accrington Observer)

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Burnley's Championship trip to Swansea City. The Clarets are top of the table after a stunning recent run of form ...

Ian Maatsen's double gave Burnley the advantage but Swansea have posed plenty of problems and deserve to be very much in this contest. I could see a lot of tired legs at half time but in the second half they just went again and that is the strength of this team, they just keep going and when you think they are about to bend or break, they just turn it and that was great to see. But we definitely got a press on for the 45 minutes in the second half. First one, he is in on goal and should score but keeper narrows the angle well. Swansea putting Burnley under a lot of pressure when the Clarets are in possession. Second is more difficult and he lifts shot over the bar They changed it, as Swansea do, if you get a hold of them then they change it around and move positions and we weren't able to get the same pressure on them. Then for about 20-25 minutes in the first half they were better and on top of us. you could see it was a team outting up a fight and that was together. Especially because in the first half we burned a lot of energy not running the right way. But Swansea, while open at the back, were posing problems going forward that suggested they could find a way back into the contest. It's another feather in the cap of this Clarets team who will surely be playing Premier League football next season after reeling off a sixth straight league win and their 10th in 11 Championship games.

1 โ€“ There has been just one draw in the last 11 meetings between the sides. 7 โ€“ The Swans are unbeaten in seven of the last 10 league games that have started a new calendar year, including the last four. "We have been quite flexible with our shape in the last few games, so we will have a look at Burnley but I want us to bring the same energy. "They are the league leaders, they have been for much of the season, and they gave us our toughest afternoon of the season so far when we played at their place. But the Swans have been on a good run of form at home, losing just once in SA1 since September 13, while a look at the Championship table over the 2022 calendar year shows Martin's side had the fifth-best record of teams who spent the whole 12 months in the second tier. But to do that they will need to be at their best against a Clarets side who are in tremendous form and currently look destined for a rapid return to the top-flight.

Cooper strike not enough as Maatsen brace earns Burnley victory at ... (WalesOnline)

The Swans were unable to produce another comeback as they were beaten by Vincent Kompany's men in south Wales.

Jay Fulton lashed goalwards from distance, and Muric could only palm the Scot's deflected effort into the path of Cooper who drilled home his fourth goal of the campaign from close range to reinvigorate the home supporters. And the Swans found themselves two goals down midway through the first-half following a lethal break from the Clarets. A loose pass from Ben Cabango was picked off by the lively Nathan Tella who was brought down by Harry Darling. Zaroury mis-controls the ball and Swansea win a throw-in to get back on the ball. And a piece of individual skill from Congreve led to Ntcham finding space, although the Cameroon international drilled wide in injury-time as Swansea were beaten in their opening fixture of the New Year. Swansea slowly turned the screw in a bid to find a late equaliser as Cameron Congreve and Matty Sorinola replaced Cullen and Cooper respectively. Allen put in a number of crunching challenges to further rouse the Swansea faithful as the hosts looked the more likely to get the next goal, although Burnley's ability to threaten on the counter attack was always there. The Jack Army were left shell-shocked. Tella burst up the pitch before laying off to Maatsen who unleashed a pile-driver through the hands of Benda to leave the hosts with a mountain to climb. To their credit, the hosts responded well to that setback and created a fine opening for Liam Cullen to extend his tally of three goals in as many matches after line-breaking passes from Matt Grimes and Cooper, although the striker could only fire straight at Arijanet Muric. Ian Maatsen struck twice in the opening 22 minutes to put the away side in control at the Swansea.com Stadium, although Ollie Cooper pulled a goal back for Swansea in what was an exciting league encounter. Joe Allen replaced Luke Cundle in what was the only alteration to the Swans' line-up from the

Maatsen double sees leaders Burnley win at Swansea (BBC Sport)

Leaders Burnley claim a sixth straight Championship victory as Ian Maatsen's spectacular first-half double secures a 2-1 win at Swansea City.

- Shots - 1Fisher - 17Piroe - 8Grimes - 3Manning - 5Cabango - 13Benda I am sure he will be disappointed with the goals, but the lead-up to the free-kick we give away is just ridiculous - we miss a five-yard pass and then it's a free-kick. But in the second half we just went again. "We were not able to get the same pressure on them and if Swansea have time on the ball, they are going to hurt you. "The difference between the two teams over the course of the season is they make very few mistakes leading to goals and we make too many. "I'm really proud of the players.

Swansea City player ratings as Manning and Cooper impress but ... (WalesOnline)

This is how the Swansea City players rated in the 2-1 defeat to Burnley at the Swansea.com Stadium.

6 Olivier Ntcham (for Allen) - Didn't really have an impact in the final third as Burnley controlled most of the second half. Tired after the restart but tracked back defensively on numerous occasions to keep his side in with a shout. Couldn't test Muric at the death. Didn't get a sniff in the second half. Contributed defensively too, thanks largely to his work-rate. Subbed as Swansea went in search of an equaliser. Never shied away from a challenge and played such a key role in the middle of the park. Indeed, he ended the match with eight tackles in a top defensive effort. Generally solid, in fairness, and made some timely clearances. Made a number of timely tackles, though. Not the best with the ball when under pressure.
