Star cyclist was 'jumped on' and punched at Essex home before raiders made off with valuable watches.

Meanwhile, his wife was “keeping her three-year-old son under the duvet to prevent him seeing the ordeal in the bedroom”, the court was told. “One of the intruders said, ‘that’s not it’,” said the prosecutor, who added that it was a Richard Mille piece valued at £400,000. He was awarded an MBE in the same year, and married Peta two years later. Renvoize said the assailants collected all the phones from the bedroom. Renvoize said: “One produced a knife and threatened to stab him up in front of his children. “She was next aware of figures of people running towards her,” Renvoize said.

He said that Peta Cavendish’s phone was found outside the property, and that the “misplacing of that telephone by one of the robbers” was an “error in what was a carefully planned and executed robbery”. He said the “robbers were armed with large knives”, “had concealed their identity with balaclavas” and “meted out violence to Mark Cavendish”. “The assailants ordered that the gates were opened,” he said. The prosecutor said that “rather successful cyclist” Cavendish and his wife Peta, a “successful model and media personality”, were “subjected to a knifepoint robbery in their home at about 2.30 in the morning”. Mr Renvoize said Peta was “asked for the watch” and Cavendish “pointed to his watch on the windowsill”. The prosecutor said Peta “tried to use her phone to call the police”, but an intruder “grabbed the phone”. “She confirmed she hadn’t called the police,” he said. Mr Renvoize said that she got back into the bedroom and Cavendish looked for a “panic alarm that he had”. “She was keeping her three-year-old son under the duvet to prevent him seeing the ordeal in the bedroom.” “There was a safe in the room and he was ordered to open it. He said that a DNA swab was taken from Mr Cavendish’s arm, where it was held by one of the assailants, and it had returned a “mixed profile”. “The footwear in question was seized from the upstairs bedroom that appeared to have been occupied by Mr Sesay,” Mr Renvoize said. He said that police recovered a “footwear impression” from the scene and footwear from the address in Croydon where Okorosobo and Sesay were arrested. “He said he hadn’t had his phone and he had to pay to get it back,” Mr Renvoize said. He said that automatic number plate recognition data showed the Mercedes travelling from Croydon to Little End in Essex and “it appeared the Mercedes was travelling in convoy with the Mitsubishi Outlander vehicle”.

Mr Renvoize said DNA from a fifth suspect - Ali Sesay, 28, of Holding Street, Rainham in Kent - was found on Mrs Cavendish's mobile phone which was left outside the house. The court has been told how Mr Cavendish and wife Peta were in bed with their three-year-old child when Mr Cavendish heard "male voices".

Mark Cavendish trial continues as men accused of knifepoint ... (Essex Live)

Olympic cyclist Mark Cavendish is set to give evidence in court this week in the trial of two men accused of robbing him at knifepoint in his Essex home.

Mr Renvoize said the phone was analysed and other numbers identified, and then "cell site data" was used to pinpoint locations of those phones using that number. He [Mr Cavendish] said he couldn't open it and he was subjected to more violence." They collected all phones from the bedroom and Mrs Cavendish believes one of them put her phone in his pocket." PC Harman said that “Peta Cavendish gave the bulk of the account but Mark was giving bits of information as well”. “As far as I can recall, Mark has opened the front door, I’ve asked him if he was OK, his wife was present in the hallway of the address,” the officer said. “Five people, armed with knives, had attended at the address, broke in and demanded property.” He said that when he arrived the gates were closed and he could not get his police vehicle into the drive. She said: "Mark was on the floor and the men were becoming increasingly agitated by the fact that they couldn't open the safe. “Before I arrived the information the control room passed over was someone had been the victim of a burglary,” said PC Harman, who was uniformed and in a marked car. Mr Cavendish told the jury his watch was one of "four or five", adding: "It wasn't available to the public". Previously, Peta Cavendish told the court her watch that was taken was one of a kind. Essex Police said no one sustained serious injuries in the incident, but Mr Cavendish said in a statement that his family were
