Prince Harry tell-all memoir does not bode well for reconciliation ... (The Guardian)

Netflix series, memoir and ITV interview reveal Harry has ammunition on William and is prepared to use it.

Only now, Harry appears to feel, does he have a voice to counter what he believes has been the “leaking and planting” of stories by members of the family, against him and his wife. The Princess of Wales, to whom Harry was once close, will also not escape, it appears. [allegedly physically attacking him](https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/jan/04/prince-harry-william-physical-attack-2019-meghan-spare-book) and knocking him to the floor in a furious row over the Duchess of Sussex, is startling. But Harry paints a picture of a hot-tempered future king, and one capable of losing control, which is very much at odds with William’s public profile. It seems King Charles’s plea to his sons, as recounted by Harry, at the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral: “Please, boys, don’t make my final years a misery,” may have fallen on stony ground. Constitutionally, a row between the two brothers, is not of import.

Prince Harry has revealed the final words he spoke to Queen Elizabeth II; The Duke of Sussex described seeing his grandmother on her deathbed ...

Harry claims that he and William had an explosive row about Meghan, which resulted in his brother grabbing him by the collar, breaking his necklace and knocking him onto a dog bowl. As for the Queen Consort, who comes off relatively lightly in the book, Harry says he and William begged their father not to marry the 'other woman'. He says when William confronted Meghan and defended his wife, Meghan snapped back at the prince, 'take your finger out of my face'. But he denies invading William and Charles's privacy by revealing intimate details in his book. Harry also accuses his elder brother of being the aggressor during 'Megxit', claiming their relationship had become so strained and damaged that William would only 'scowl' at him. The prince, who quit as a working royal and moved to California with Meghan, recalls in excruciating detail dozens of family rows and intimate conversations. But it is his discussion of relationships with family members that is most damaging. Upon arriving at Balmoral, he was greeted by Anne, the Princess Royal, who then took him upstairs to a room where the late Sovereign was lying. He also told her that he admired her for having carried out her duties until the end. 'I whispered that I hoped she was happy and that she was with Grandfather now. However, he failed to reach the estate before she passed away aged 96. Spare was supposed to be published on Tuesday amid a huge secrecy operation by its publisher, Penguin Random House.

Harry, no... Why Spare is a step too far even for this royals fan (The Independent)

It's the biggest book release of the year, so why is 'Spare' making royal watcher Jessie Thompson want to run and hide?

Some may argue that The Crown is damaging to the royals – but we know that it mainly consists of nice-looking recreations of things on the public record, or imagined versions of things that aren’t. As Tolstoy wrote, “every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way”; festering family rifts are as common as they are difficult, and at this point I’d assume that proud royalists and staunch republicans are generally united by the fact we’d all quite like to see the Windsors heal. I watch new seasons of The Crown in a single sitting. But now Spare – really, what a title – is about to come out, and I want to run and hide. Prince Harry says he first found out about the death of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth from the BBC website. In his memoir Spare, the Duke of Sussex says ...

"We also spoke about the devastating drought. "It's like my head, granny, full of bald spots and brown patches!' She burst out laughing. "When the plane started to descend I saw that my phone lit up. "We touched on lots of issues. "I looked at the BBC website. Nobody's wife was going, not even Kate, he told me, so Meg shouldn't either.

Prince Harry book gets critical mauling in UK (FRANCE 24)

Prince Harry's memoir "Spare" was on Friday mauled by British media and commentators who called it "vengeful" and "calculated", as Buckingham Palace kept ...

"I saw this red mist in him," Harry said in a clip of his chat with ITV, talking about the altercation with William. "Having made the idiotic decision to 'go public' about his rift with the royal family, Harry was no doubt under enormous pressure... The left-leaning newspaper, which has questioned the monarchy's role in modern Britain, was the first to publish a leaked extract of the book this week in which Harry described his physical altercation with William. In an editorial, it pointed to "countless discrepancies" in his claims and urged him to listen to friends who have urged him to "stop for his own good". The Sun tabloid said that while people sympathised with Harry, 38, over the trauma of losing his mother as a child and having to grieve in the public eye, "neither can justify the destructive, vengeful path he has chosen, throwing his own family under a bus for millions of dollars". Wilson called the ghostwritten tome -- the biggest royal book since Harry's mother Princess Diana collaborated with Andrew Morton for "Diana: Her True Story" in 1992 -- "calculated and despicable" and a work of "malice".

I think this will incite some people to maybe attempt to attack against British soldiers anywhere in the world” “Beyond Harry, this episode should be a call for all veterans everywhere to reach out and check in with those they served with. What's in Prince Harry's memoir Spare? Here's all we know so far (The Guardian)

Duke of Sussex writes about tussles with his brother, that Nazi uniform, his mother's death, and losing his virginity.

He “watched the concrete pillars flicker past” and “counted them” and counted his heartbeats. “What other reason could there be apart from corruption and coverups being the order of the day?” he writes. Simmering tensions between the Cambridges and the Sussexes came to a head after the Sussexes’ wedding, after Harry and Meghan popped round for tea, according to numerous reports. The trauma of his mother’s death is evident as Harry describes in detail its immediate impact, and his struggle since to come to terms with it. In a trail of an interview for Good Morning America, due to air on Monday, the anchor Michael Strahan asks: “There’s a quote in your book where you refer to your brother as your ‘beloved brother and arch nemesis’. He lay “dazed” before getting up and ordering William to leave. William had felt “tremendous guilt” over “the other woman” whom he had “long harboured suspicions about”. Harry was “the shadow, the support, the plan B”, and believes he was “brought into this world in case something happened”. Prince William was the heir, “whereas I was the spare”, Harry writes, according to reports in Friday’s newspapers. Harry and William told their father they would not stand in the way of his relationship with Camilla, but begged him not to marry her. “Close your eyes and you won’t even feel it,” Harry wrote, according to the Times. He recounts hearing, aged 20, that his father allegedly said to his mother on the day of his birth: “Wonderful!

Army veterans criticise Prince Harry's claim he killed 25 Taliban in ... (The Guardian)

Col Tim Collins says 'we don't do notches on rifle butt' and kill-count talk could increase Harry's personal security risk.

Is this the mindset of the army and does it explain why some atrocities were committed?” I don’t know who the targets were in Harry’s case but of course I find them distasteful. Harry is suing the UK government over a decision to withdraw taxpayer-funded royal protection for him and his family after he stepped back from royal duties in 2020. Harry writes that “in the era of Apaches and laptops” it was possible to establish “with exactness how many enemy combatants I had killed. It was possible to establish a kill count, the prince said, because he was able to watch gun-cam footage of every mission he flew on. Among the killers of Afghans, not many have your decency to reveal their conscience and confess to their war crimes.”

In the book, Harry claims he had a wild “suspicion” which then turned into a “firm belief” following Diana’s death that she had faked her own death to avoid the palace. He broke my necklace by grabbing me by the collar of my shirt and he threw me to the ground. He wanted me to recognise that Meghan was in the wrong and to assure him I would do something about it. “And it seemed to me essential not to be afraid of that number [of people killed]. “While the ears and cheeks were already healing,” he writes, “the todger wasn’t. “I was a 17-year-old willing to try almost anything that would upset the established order. The first part was true, at least, though Harry says he dismissed the potential evidence as “all lies”. Harry writes: “I suspected he was referring to my recent loss of virginity, a humiliating episode with an older woman who liked macho horses and who treated me like a young stallion. According to Harry, Kate apparently texted Meghan on the week of her and Harry’s wedding saying that there was “a problem” with Princess Charlotte’s outfit. “I was baffled until Willy and Kate explained that they were regular — nay, religious — viewers of ‘Suits,'” Harry writes. William and Kate, along with Harry, were set to attend a “Native and Colonial” themed party (yikes) in 2005. Despite this, Princess Charlotte was apparently very unimpressed with her outfit, which Harry writes was “too big, long and baggy”, claiming that Charlotte “burst into tears” when she tried it on.

Are royal babies circumcised? Prince Harry's surprising comments ... (HELLO!)

The Duke of Sussex has revealed he was circumcised as a baby in his new book Spare – but do all royal baby boys have the procedure?

[ Sign up to the HELLO! It is not known if Princes William and Harry have continued the tradition with their own sons. It was rarely done on medical grounds, nor on religious ones, but was a matter of class." Queen Victoria then continued the custom with her children, as did Edward VII and down the royal male line to the now King Charles and his brothers Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. The procedure is normally performed on a day patient basis and is mainly done for either religious or medical reasons. Speaking about his return from the North Pole, Harry revealed he had "frostnipped" genitals which took a while to heal.
