And the outcome of their faith was change. For us in the West, the Epiphany has always focussed on the revelation of Christ to the Magi, the Wise Men (sometimes referred to as The Three Kings), from the East. And notice, the flesh in question is not some “souped up” sleek, successful version of humanity, but the familiar, fragile, frail, failing flesh, which is us.

Let's celebrate the Epiphany with an eye on the future (National Catholic Reporter)

Pope Francis walks with his pastoral staff among cardinals and prelates at the end of an Epiphany Mass in St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican, Jan. 6, 2022.

Will we prepare a welcoming world, or will we make the world uninhabitable? Most of the world wants to ignore the threat of climate disaster. Few in the developed world want to make the sacrifices necessary to turn things around. Some liturgical scholars see the Epiphany as also pointing to the second coming of Christ. Infused with the Spirit, we will transform the world. [baptism of the Lord](https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/010923.cfm) on the day after the Epiphany with the baptismal account from Matthew. 15](https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/011523.cfm), we will hear from John's account of the baptism. [feast of the Epiphany](https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/010823.cfm) on Sunday, Jan. Thus, the epiphany or manifestation is to all who hear God's words. In the New Testament, it is used to refer to the birth of Jesus, his resurrection and, most frequently, to his second coming. We like to extend the Christmas season as long as we can. Thus, in the West, the epiphany or manifestation of the divine is to the Magi.

Epiphany meaning explained: What the Christian feast day means ... (iNews)

The Epiphany always falls on 6 January, and has different meanings depending on which branch of Christianity worshippers follow.

Different Christian traditions define the date of Twelfth Night as either the 5 or 6 of January, depending in part on how the 12 days of Christmas are calculated. A tradition exists where the youngest of the family will go under the table and attribute each slice to someone randomly. The Epiphany always falls on 6 January, which is a Friday in 2023. 2nd Sunday of Epiphany (Church Times)

15 January: Isaiah 49.1-7; Psalm 40.1-12; 1 Corinthians 1.1-9; John 1.29-42.

Our “mattering” to God cannot be on the basis of our status, achievements, or fame. The answer to our question, therefore, is time. The Isaiah reading encourages us to explore this, but not in terms of humanity as a lump — “a big dollop of sin” (massa peccati), as Augustine expressed it on one of his gloomier days. The Holy Spirit is his instrument of regeneration. In reality, wanting something really badly, and striving for it, is never going to work for most of us. We can ask it another way: do we take the epiphany of Christ into ourselves, or does Christ gather us up into his epiphany?

What the Epiphany Teaches Us About Political Hatred (TIME)

The story of the three Wise Men and King Herod is a parable for our time of poisonous political hostility.

Hostility to ethnic and religious outsiders, meanwhile, leads to the massacre of one’s innocent own. Traditionally this slaughter is known as the massacre of the Holy Innocents, still a holy day in many Christian calendars. The other significant character in Matthew’s tale is King Herod, the local Judean ruler, a puppet of the Romans. On the contrary, we’re told the magi return to their own land and, presumably, to their roles as astronomers and priests. And the word used to describe the wise men, magoi, doesn’t refer to wisdom either, but to priesthood in an ancient Persian religion. For Christians over the world, January 6 is the feast of the Epiphany, the day upon which—according to the Gospel of Matthew—three wise men from the east visited Bethlehem and offered gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to Jesus and his family.
