FA Cup Report: Narrow defeat for battling Gillingham (Kent Online)

Gillingham competed well against Premier League Leicester City but one goal was enough for the visitors.

Williams and Jefferies were doing a good job of breaking up play as Gills looked organised but Leicester always had the quality to change the game in an instant. The Gills lost Ben Reeves for the rest of the season following their previous match at Priestfield, suffering a cruciate ligament injury. Gills boss Neil Harris didn’t have the luxury of a sizeable squad to mix it up - there were more BBC pundits in the ground than home players - but he made three changes with Hakeeb Adelakun, Cheye Alexander and goalkeeper Jake Turner coming in. Dom Jefferies had a low shot saved early on after winning possession. New owner Brad Galinson and his family were introduced to fans on the pitch before kick-off. This was Gillingham’s 35th game of the season, 12 of those in cup competitions.

Gillingham vs Leicester City live: Score and latest updates from FA ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

Good start from the hosts - only that Vardy chance to speak of for Leicester. That, I imagine, is exactly what Neil Harris would have been hoping for.

Gillingham sit bottom of League Two - so are 92nd of the 92 professional league clubs - and their current run of form is worse than the Premier League outfits' - losing four on the bounce. Like I've always said, we want to win every cup competition we're in," the Leicester manager said. But while the break has worked for some, it most definitely hasn't for Rodgers' side who are in dire need of a win and a good performance today against the League Two side. First corner of the match is won by the Premier League side - a chance for Leicester to put the minnow under early pressure. Brendan Rodgers has made eight changes from the Leicester side beaten 1-0 by Fulham in mid-week. The Premier League outfit would prefer a top-four finish but if that is beyond them (I think it is) then an FA Cup win might placate ever-expectant fans. Good start from the hosts - only that Vardy chance to speak of for Leicester. Not initially as Leicester clear the danger. The ball comes in from the left, Leicester only half clear the danger and it falls to Williams whose shot looks goal bound before Perez blacks well. Gillingham are, slowly but surely, posing Leicester a few problems in possession now. Moments later the ball falls at the feet of Iheanacho and the Nigerian has a go - someone has to - with his left. Leicester are patient - as they have had to be all half - passing the ball well, probing before Albrighton delivers a low cross that evades everyone.

I want to enjoy the environment, I want to enjoy the atmosphere and I want our fans to come and enjoy the day. They drew 1-1 with a Brentford side containing Toney, Damsgaard, and Norgaard earlier in the season, beating them on penalties in the Carabao Cup. If Rodgers goes bold with youngsters, the side below is the sort of team City might field this lunchtime. “We have earnt the right to be here. They are going to want to win and so are we. It won’t intimidate the opposition who have world class players but we can try and make it as awkward as we can for Leicester. The Citys stiker has just cracked a shot over the bar and straight into the face of a fan behind the goal. "Towards the end if it is tight of course it changes the mindset. Vardy hits the bouncing ball first time, but Turner was out of his goal to block with his body. After a run of three straight defeats in the Premier League, a cup tie provides an opportunity to get back on track. It seems to hold in the air for ages, fooling everybody. We are live at Priestfield Stadium to bring you live action, analysis, and reaction from the tie.

FA Cup Match Report: Gillingham 0 - 1 Leicester City (Fosse Posse)

Foxes stumble to the next round in a match that might best be described as "thankfully over."

The match has no impact on our place in the league, but it does see us through to the next round of the FA Cup. Premier League action resumes on the 14th when we host Nottingham Forest to close out the first half of the campaign. On Tuesday, we travel to the northeast to face The whistle blew and the Foxes were through to the next round, one where this sort of performance is less likely to be good enough. It was a little like those Mitchell and Webb snooker sketches, in that they had to fill the gaps in the game’s action with tangentially related stories and complaints about how the game had gone. The match gained a little bit of much-needed tempo after the goal. The Foxes took the lead on 56’ with a goal featuring more fortune than quality. Both managers kept the faith with their starting XI at the start of the second period. As you may have expected, manager Brendan Rodgers made a raft of changes to the side that lost 1-0 to Fulham on Tuesday. At the other end, Mendy gave the ball away in midfield, gifting it to Dom Jefferies. [Leicester City](https://fosseposse.sbnation.com) fumbled their way past Gillingham in the [FA Cup](http://www.sbnation.com/fa-cup) by a score of 1-0 on Saturday. The ball bobbled awkwardly on the floor and the former England man couldn’t get the contact to guide it into the net.

Report | Gillingham 0-1 Leicester City (gillinghamfootballclub.com)

Gills fall to narrow defeat at home to Premier League Leicester in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Turner had to deny Iheanacho on the hour as the forward made his way towards the penalty area. The Gills goalkeeper had to back pedal as he pushed it over the crossbar for a corner. A cross into the box overran as it made its way to Kasey McAteer. Gills had a good spell of possession around the Leicester penalty area in the 30th minute as they were waiting for the ball to bounce the right way for them. He cut the ball back in the direction of Jamie Vardy, who could not bring it under control, but Iheanacho was on hand to thump the ball into an empty net. He was allowed to make his way towards the edge of the penalty area before directing a shot towards the far bottom corner.
