The home side had more to celebrate soon after. Southampton force a corner and the ball bounces out to Caleta-Car. Alvarez is dropping deep, behind Foden, Grealish and Palmer when City win the ball back. It feels very similar to the first half at Chelsea where City are slowing themselves down because each player has to work out where their teammates are. City can’t say that wasn’t coming, and the goal is entirely of their own making. They’ve not tested the Southampton keeper and have gifted the home team two goals. City already look more balanced this half - who’d have thought that playing in-form players in their correct positions would work?
