McKay goal hands Hearts victory over St Mirren (BBC Sport)

Hearts move six points clear of Aberdeen in fourth place in the Scottish Premiership with a narrow win over St Mirren at a packed Tynecastle Stadium.

St Mirren should finish in the top six if they carry their second-half performance into the rest of their league campaign. "It was a great goal. However, with only Carson to beat, the striker appeared to stub his foot as he shot wide. This was a big win for Neilson. McKay proved to be the difference between the teams, his goal beautifully worked. St Mirren looked aggrieved to be behind and fought hard for an equaliser.

St Mirren made to rue missed chances as Hearts eke out win at ... (Scottish Daily Record)

The Saints pressed hard for a second half leveller, with Hearts keeper Zander Clark pulling off a superb double save to deny both Greg Kiltie and Curtis Main.

Ayunga then lashed into the side netting as the visitors continued to press for a late equaliser. The spot kick wasn't given though, with the hosts eventually holding on for all three points - Main's late free-kick dragging agonisingly wide at the death.. Saints were very much still in the game, with Flynn's low cross eventually breaking to Kiltie. The tricky winger wasted no time in pulling the trigger, curling a sweet strike past Carson to open the scoring. After a Ryan Flynn corner broke down, the ball eventually fell to Curtis Main who curled an effort meekly at Clark with the goal at his mercy. The Saints were more than holding their own in the capital and fashioned another opportunity when Alex Greive cleverly cut inside his marker and set up Keanu Baccus.
