A strong Liverpool U21s side finished a busy week with a narrow 2-1 defeat against Manchester United in Premier League 2 on Saturday evening.

And within seconds, United were ahead – Hugill tapping in his second after a break down the right. A fine run from Stephenson saw him drop off a clever backheel to Melkamu Frauendorf but his goal-bound shot was blocked for a corner. Luca Stephenson took a touch before unleashing a curling shot into the net, the despairing fingertips of goalkeeper Radek Vitek only able to get the slightest of touches.

It has been a tough day all around for Liverpool, with their U21 side losing to Manchester United in Premier League 2 on Saturday afternoon.

They have a chance to bounce back right away, though, as they face Braga in midweek before hosting Crystal Palace next weekend. Jacob Murphy died in 2020 after he contracted the Adenovirus virus and his mum Chelsea said that he "fought to the end". Born in 2017, Jacob was born 23 weeks ...

It is the anniversary of his death in two weeks but his birthdays are a lot harder, it's so difficult when you realise that he is not here to celebrate it. He went through so much and now he is not here. Due to Jacob being born prematurely, Jacobs's lungs did not develop properly and doctors told Chelsea that he would have respiratory problems in the future. Jacob Murphy died in 2020 after he contracted the Adenovirus virus and his mum Chelsea said that he "fought to the end". He was such a bright and beautiful son." That was until 2019 when he started to get a "slight cough" at the time Chelsea thought he was just unwell before being rushed into Whiston Hospital.

Joe Hugill scores twice as Manchester United U21s complete ... (Manchester Evening News)

Man United's U21s made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League 2 with a win vs rivals Liverpool at Leigh Sports Village.

In the 78th minute, Hugill managed to find the back of the net again with substitute Mateo Mejia providing an assist after an impressive run from the right wing. The goal was Hugill's fourth goal of the season in just his fifth appearance.
