Sheffield United vs Stoke City player ratings as abysmal form ... (Stoke-on-Trent Live)

Reaction from Bramall Lane after Stoke City took on promotion-chasing Sheffield United in the Championship.

Clarke (for Wilmot, 78): Surprisingly dropped to bench. Diving tackle couldn’t stop Bogle for third. Bogle shot deflected off shin past Bonham for deflating second. 5 Good cross for Brown chance. Always willing but out of position. Sent in a few crosses of mixed quality. And then the third came. Brown forced a save low down after good work on the right from sub Tyrese Campbell. Then Josh Laurent lost possession mid-way inside his own half and Bogle strolled forward and bobbled a deflected shot in at the near post. Wilmot: Surprise start at wing-back but couldn’t stop cross for opener and was chasing shadows for a while. About 3,000 travelling supporters were subjected to some dreadful defending to gift Sheffield United two first-half goals – thorough Iliman Ndiaye and Jayden Bogle – before Nick Powell pulled one back in injury time.

Jayden Bogle (Sheffield United) left footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom right corner. - Shots - 32Taylor - 24Fosu-Henry - 22Kilkenny - 11Gayle "We stopped them creating any chances - there was the Jacob Brown header and that was it, which is good from our part. - 10Campbell "It made us better. "We were passive in the first half. "The second with Jayden, pressing high and regaining, it's taken a deflection off Phil Jagielka where he's tried to make the block - we're good value and looking strong but their goal is our fault. We prepared for that and watching the first goal back we're delighted because it's straight off the training ground, so every player can take a lot of credit.

I thought we were passive in the first half, but I can't fault the lads' effort in the second half." When we need to have control of the game without the ball, we know what we do and we know how we want to do it. I thought that we were arguably the team that looked more likely to score in the second half. We did to our own detriment, really, because the first goal came when we hit them down the right-hand side. "I'll take a big part of the criticism in the fact that I wanted us to play and open the pitch out. We expected a tough game and we got one.

Sheffield United 3 Stoke City 1: Blades make heavy weather of it but ... (Yorkshire Post)

Paul Heckingbottom freshened up his side, changing both his wing-backs due to injury and Max Lowe and Bogle both made a big impact. James McAtee was brilliant ...

McAtee, as usual, faded and was replaced with the hour approaching. Bogle, though, kept fighting, his 90th-minute run breaking down but Jagielka’s tackle fell to Tommy Doyle, who crossed. Shortly after a Jack Robinson long throw had the white shirts scrambling. James McAtee was brilliant in central midfield and Iliman Ndiaye just continued the form he has shown since the World Cup. Sander Berge disappointingly blazed a good chance over after good work by Bogle. Lowe, Bogle and Ndiaye combined for the first goal, Bogle scored the second.

Stoke, to their credit, did march on in the FA Cup last weekend, courtesy of a comfortable win over League Two Hartlepool United. The Blades, of course, have long been in the midst of a stellar stretch of form. Our recommended bet for Saturday’s clash at Bramall Lane comes in the form of a Sheffield United victory over Stoke City, by two goals to nil.

A joy to watch and hopefully his injury isn’t too serious. Faded and replaced before the hour. Iliman Ndiaye – 7: Scored, set up McAtee with some typically vibrant play, held the ball up well and worked hard out of possession. Sander Berge – 5: Poor work against the ball in the build-up to Powell’s goal and wasted a glorious chance for 3-1 late in the game. Anel Ahmedhodzic- 7: Stepped out of defence well in the first-half and got up and down the right in the second. Wes Foderingham – 7: Dealt with everything he needed to well enough, with his handling nice and clean in the second-half to hold Lewis Baker and Jacob Brown efforts.
