“We need to get after the game and make sure they know they are in a football match. There is a conundrum of playing the team that has the ball the most of any teams in the league yet we are at home and wanting to engage our fans. They don’t want to see Swansea coming to our pitch and pass the ball around. 282 - Matt Grimes has made 282 line-breaking passes so far this season. We have to be wary of them. Tony Mowbray: “The perception of Swansea is really interesting, I’ve been studying them this week.

Sunderland vs Swansea LIVE: Liam Cullen and Ollie Cooper goals ... (Sunderland Echo)

Sunderland face Swansea City at the Stadium of Light – and we've got all the action covered.

“We have to be wary of them - it’s a difficult game because the conundrum for us is, this is the team that has the ball the most in our league and yet we are home and we want to engage our fans. We’re not the type of side that plays for a point though so it could be open.” “There’s very little between us and them in terms of points. We have to press, make tackles and when we get the ball we have to make sure we’re good with it. That Watford win is our only one in eleven so we need to change that. “They are a very, very good football team and I think we felt it down there in the first half until we got things sorted. I really enjoyed playing there myself as a player. We know there’ll be times in the game where we have to suffer but as long as we know that and take our chances when they come, we can look forward to it. “They pose a lot of threat, it’s a brilliant place to play. We’ll certainly look to go and attack.” Until we got that sorted we were in a lot of trouble because they are a very good team “We found a way in the end and that’s the main thing, and now we have a trip to Premier League side Fulham to look forward to in the next round.

It took us a little while to manage the emotion of that because the crowd was so up, and we've got so many young players experiencing that kind of atmosphere for the first time. There was no need for that intent, yet you can imagine if he had made real clean contact and the ball had flown 50 yards up the field, the crowd would have roared and it would have kept the momentum going. "Luke was stepping out from a central-defensive position into a midfield area, where their number nine had dropped down, and we'd talked about how the centre-halves had to drop in with them because they play in the spaces. My job today was to try to make sure these players played with intensity against this team that were coming to try to dominate the ball, and I thought we did it brilliantly well for however long it was before the sending off. "I'm really pleased with the players. The incident sparked a bout of pushing and shoving involving players from both sides, which was halted by Stroud brandishing a straight red card to O'Nien.

Piroe, Cullen and Cooper strikes earn Swansea victory at Sunderland (WalesOnline)

The Swans scored three goals in the second-half to claim all three points against the Black Cats.

Swansea keeping the ball with ease now. But Swansea put the game to bed in stunning style. Stewart rose to head Clarke's cross into the path of Neil who lashed home from close range. Then the offside flag goes up. A few sloppy moments here and Sunderland have some of the ball. A cheap foul from Sorinola, and he then blocks a quick free-kick. Latibeaudiere is booked for a cynical foul. However, the Swans struck gold just five minutes after the restart. Swansea back on the ball and high up the pitch now. Sunderland whip in a corner, and Cooper makes a block on the edge of the box. Pass. Swansea went on to dominate possession and slowly grew in confidence in the final third, with Darling testing Anthony Patterson with a drilled effort from distance.

Andy's Player Ratings: Sunderland 1-3 Swansea - Early red card ... (Roker Report)

Despite showing early dominance, a red card in the first half for Luke O'Nien changed the game for Sunderland against the twelve men of Swansea.

A man mountain at the back as usual, despite his lay off, and got an assist with his header to Dan Neil. Got far too narrow for the first and second goals and we were punished for it. Sent off very early and put the team under pressure for most of the game.
