Liverpool board's four options to replace Jurgen Klopp as crisis at ... (Daily Express)

Liverpool are stuck in a rut at present with Jurgen Klopp overseeing a nightmare 3-0 Premier League defeat to Brighton on Saturday night.

Klopp seems to have a seven season curse, having previously suffered a similar ordeal at Borussia Dortmund. After all, he’s got plenty of credit in the bank having won all four major trophies throughout his time at Anfield. Yet his surly demeanour and worsening results mean an exit can’t be entirely ruled out, especially given the shambolic season they’re currently enduring. Enrique wasn’t able to win with Spain at the recent World Cup in Qatar, with the 2010 champions exiting in the round of 16 at the hands of Morocco. Yet that doesn’t change the fact the 52-year-old is a serial winner and one of the best managers in the world. And with the Argentine one of the best bosses in the game, he’d certainly be a good Klopp replacement.

The end of an era: how a wasted summer led to Liverpool's collapse (The Guardian)

The end result took the number of league goals conceded this season to 25, the most after 18 league games under Klopp. To put it bluntly, Henderson and Fabinho ...

For that to happen he needs to make changes to his side and there is no more pressing place than at the very heart of it. In that sense their substitutions at the weekend did feel symbolic; a nod to the end of one era and the need for another to begin. However, there should have been alternative plans in place, and given Liverpool’s worsening hopes in regards to finishing in the top four it is more than a surprise a midfielder is unlikely to be signed in this window either, with a move for the No 1 target, Jude Bellingham, to take place in the summer at the earliest. The rhythmic drumbeat of Klopp’s heavy-metal football has been distinctly unharmonious for months and the fundamental impact of that has been opposition sides being able to create openings against For sure there has been a hangover from last season’s gruelling and ultimately devastating pursuit of the quadruple, something the manager In the end it appeared as if those in red had barely spent an hour together before travelling to the south coast.

Liverpool FC Doom-Mongers Need To Remember 2021 (Forbes)

We don't have to go back too far to find another occasion where a loss to Brighton prompted serious introspection from the German.

This was because of another unprecedented interruption to the schedule from a winter World Cup. Pressing his palms together, like the Virgin Mary in a renaissance painting, he bowed his head to the fans. Klopp might not be able to remember such a poor performance. It was a very organized team against a not-very-organized team. For me, it's more important to find an explanation for why we lost this game and understand what happened here tonight. Clenching his fists, lower set of teeth exposed, he’d punch the air to rapturous cheers. Perhaps unsurprisingly, given his match load, he was injured in the round of fixtures before the Brighton game and, although he has not been at his commanding best so far this year, it is a blow similar to the injury crisis that was central to the 2020/21 collapse. We didn't look convincing.” I honestly can’t and I mean all [my career] not only Liverpool and that’s my responsibility. But it was hard not to feel like there was some truth in the idea the side had run out of steam. If the adrenaline-infused fist pump is one end of the emotional spectrum this was the other. "I’m not sure if it’s because it’s only a few minutes since the game, but I can’t remember a worse game.

You back the manager because of what he’s done. But he's not infallible. FSG owe him their full support after what he has achieved for them. If a rebuild is required there’s nobody I would trust more than Jurgen Klopp. If you turn your back on him now, you’re a joke. He needs to find ruthlessness. But he needs better support from the club interms of transfers and better advice from staff (or better staff) to see his own blindspots and overcome stubborness. Of course recruitment is on the owners, but the manager isn’t tweaking things to get the best out of what he’s actually got. It's through gritted teeth, but he does. [January 14, 2023] He’s got so much in the bank. Klopp’s attitude & seemingly unwavering loyalty to an ageing squad is definitely another one.

Liverpool currently sit ten points off the Champions League places after losing at Brighton.

If Jurgen Klopp can get that level of money from new owners and spends it as wisely as he has done for the last eight years, he will be empowered next season to go and transform that team. Chelsea have spent in excess of £400million since their takeover in May, and Neville is of the view Klopp could cause serious damage if provided with similar funds to strengthen his side. "There was the odd season of a dip and that could be this. Injuries to key players has certainly not helped the Reds' chances of challenging for the league, but a lack of investment in midfield could be argued as the biggest factor behind the demise of the team. Klopp admitted ahead of Saturday's defeat at Brighton the club's 63-game campaign had taken its toll on his players, who were pushed to their maximum as they chased a historic quadrupled. Having built one great team, the transition to another was never going to be seamless, but the failure to start the midfield revamp has cost them dear. The answer certainly wasn’t the deadline-day panic-loan signing of [Arthur](https://theathletic.com/football/player/arthur-2jaUFMrxoxF3fjdF/). It comes back to the lack of other options he fully trusts. Fabinho won 50 per cent of his duels at Brighton, Henderson 40 per cent and Thiago 37.5 per cent — that doesn’t include all the times when they were easily bypassed as gaps between them were exploited. Once again they lost so many challenges (44 per cent duels won) and once again they repeatedly lost the ball in dangerous areas (39 per cent possession). “But the outcome was horrible to watch. Hugely fortunate to still be level at the break, it was scarcely believable how they capitulated in the second half. FSG president Mike Gordon has taken a back seat in the day-to-day running of Liverpool to oversee that process, while outgoing sporting director Julian Ward and director of research Ian Graham are serving their notice periods. “The transfer market is not the solution for us.

Liverpool have been told what action they must now take after Jurgen Klopp 'failed' to fix things. The Reds are in shocking form.

“I said after their defeat against Brentford that their midfield looked old and unable to compete in the way they were two seasons ago. To say that was lacking would be an understatement. Crooks is right, of course; we’re not sure anyone would argue against his point here. The watching Garth Crooks wasn’t too surprised, it seems. Liverpool are wasting the one thing Jurgen Klopp has always asked ... (Liverpool Echo)

Liverpool have had plenty of time on the training pitches in recent months, but there's little evidence of what is being worked on.

"We don’t win the key battles on the pitch at key challenges and we give the ball away too easily. "At times it's not been good enough this season, so it's important we try and get that impulse back and get that part of our game to the maximum consistently. [Klopp](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/all-about/jurgen-klopp) said in the aftermath of the defeat to Brighton. The opposition is outworking and outfighting Liverpool, which is an accusation you could rarely level at Klopp's team in the past, even on their off-days. "We want to get back to pressing how the team pressed last year, which was very useful in games, and we created a lot of chances from it. That's a win-rate that stands at just 43.2%, while the loss at the Amex Stadium on Saturday afternoon saw them post a figure of 44%. "We haven’t quite been at the level pressing-wise this year, and it’s something we’ve been working on and will keep working on. It's the first time since 1993 that Liverpool have lost their first two matches of a new year. And even when a tactical tweak appears an obvious one, it has been something that has fallen flat. Manchester City, Ajax, Tottenham; we've been looking at all the good games where the pressing came from. [Champions League final loss to Real Madrid](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/match-reports/liverpool-breaking-24089673) on May 28, the Reds played 16 times, which equates to a game every three-and-a-half days. Liverpool's crisis is clearly growing - but there are no calls for Klopp ... (Goal.com)

Liverpool's season reached a new low at Brighton on Saturday but there will be no calls for Jurgen Klopp to be sacked as manager.

There is still plenty of elite talent within this Liverpool squad, and finding a way to allow that to show itself again must be top of the manager’s priority list. The time for togetherness at Anfield is now. They might not be enjoying what they’re watching at the moment, but Klopp knows he can still count on their unwavering support. There were a few shows of dissent on Saturday. It’s been a case of feast to famine, as far as Liverpudlians are concerned. "They were exceptional, to be honest," he said afterwards. Some, such as Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita, didn’t bother, heading straight down the tunnel. "And I mean in all [my career], not only at Liverpool.” How that will pan out, with the club still up for sale and the sporting director, Julian Ward, stepping down at the end of the season, remains to be seen. They have taken eight points from nine away matches in the league, they’re out of the Carabao Cup and need to win a tricky replay at Wolves on Tuesday night to keep their FA Cup hopes alive. Klopp’s side are ninth in the Premier League, below Fulham, Brighton and Brentford and closer to the bottom of the table than the top.
