Hibernian 0-3 Hearts: Analysis (BBC News)

Andrew Petrie, BBC Sport Scotland. The scoreline did flatter Hearts but they took their chances when it mattered, timing every punch, if not deliberately ...

He's had the last laugh. Lawrence Shankland symbolised the performance. But the tactic of hitting on the counter - as they did three weeks ago - added a flourish to the scoreline and sapped any energy out of the Hibs fightback.

Clinical Hearts extend run to dump Hibs out of cup (BBC Sport)

Hearts' unbeaten Edinburgh derby run stretches to nine games as goals as they dump Hibernian out of the Scottish Cup in the fourth round.

Toby Sibbick (Heart of Midlothian) right footed shot from the centre of the box to the centre of the goal. - Away14 - Home12 - Shots - 3Kingsley - 77Snodgrass I thought we did enough to win the game. It's quite scrappy, it's hard to get control. Hibs dominated on the pitch and statistically, but they were toothless where it mattered. That would be the difference in the end. Elie Youan terrorised the Hearts defence, as did Aidan McGeady. From the first whistle, Hibs looked more like the team cantering to another third-placed finish.

Hibs vs Hearts - LIVE reaction (Scottish Daily Record)

The Jambos are now unbeaten in their last nine derbies as they booked their place in the Scottish Cup last 16 with a thumping victory.

We fell short last season but it's a new year and we have scorers like Shanks and others and we want to go to the final and win it. The goal came at a perfect time for us and that’s what he brings to us. There’s a gap at the moment but we want to get closer and if we look up the way then we don’t have to worry about what’s below us. But a massive shoutout to him because he deserves it. [Robbie Neilson](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/robbie-neilson) had never won at Easter Road as a player before today, but his players allowed him to tick that one off the bucket list in emphatic fashion as the suspended boss watched on from the stand. I’m delighted but we just have to keep moving forward. He’s been brilliant for us, our best player by far, and deserves the attention he gets. Eight minutes of stoppage time gave HIbs a lift as well. You want to win things and we have a chance. The hosts came out for the second half to try and put more pressure on, but a moment of class from Lawrence Shankland put Hearts in control. The Hearts fans celebrated with a rendition of 'One Lee Johnson', and the writing could be on the wall for their former players as far as his Hibs tenure is concerned. Hibernian 0-3 Hearts: Lawrence Shankland scores then gets sent off ... (Sky Sports)

However, the shine was slightly taken off the Jambos captain's day when a foul on Rocky Bushiri earned him a second yellow card. The Hearts skipper threatened with a couple of strikes from outside the box in the early stages of the second half. Hearts had a good chance to double their lead in the 35th minute when Cochrane squared the ball across the box to his fellow wing-back Smith but the Northern Irishman's low left-footed shot was well saved by David Marshall. Despite being a goal behind, the hosts continued to look the more threatening side and McGeady almost conjured an equaliser in the 21st minute when he drove into the Hearts box and saw his angled shot beaten behind by Clark. The Jambos went ahead in the 10th minute when Ginnelly pounced to rasp in a ferocious low strike from 12 yards out after Robert Snodgrass' inswinging free-kick from the right was only partially cleared by the Hibs defence. How Shankland ended 31-year wait for Hearts fans (BBC News)

Lawrence Shankland ends Hearts 31-year wait for a 20-goal-a-season striker, but what next for the Scotland cap?

"There's not many players in the Scottish league that have managed to do it. He's the only Hearts player to do that since 1958. To highlight his importance, Neilson has handed Shankland the armband in goalkeeper Craig Gordon's absence. Shankland has, not accounting for injury or ill health, at least 16 league games to add to his tally. The keeper had no chance." And of the volley versus Hibs, McCann added: "He's no right to score it. He has not missed from the spot - nine of his 16 have been spot-kicks - and he's clinical when he gets a decent chance on goal, which is indicative of Neilson's Hearts in recent weeks. "Everybody reminded me of [the milestone] daily when I signed so it was hard to ignore. "My first competitive goal for Hearts was at Easter Road, so to get 20 there would be brilliant. He's got no right to manufacture it. "I played with Robbo, who was a proper nine," former Hearts winger Neil McCann said on Sportsound. "I knew bringing Lawrence in here he would score goals because we create chances," he added, before laying down a gauntlet.

David Marshall urges Hibs to see positives in Hearts loss (HeraldScotland)

DAVID MARSHALL insists Hibernian can draw positives from their 3-0 defeat in the Edinburgh Derby as the Leith outfit crashed out of the Scottish Cup.

If you look back at the game, we can take some positives in terms of performances, which has been potentially lacking in recent months.” We play Aberdeen next and we can get higher in the league. “We started the season quite strongly defensively and we've slipped a little bit.
