Darvel v Aberdeen - LIVE updates (Scottish Daily Record)

The Dons boss is on the brink after suffering the biggest Scottish Cup shock of all time.

Aberdeen had the ball in the back of the net and it should have stood. To have an exit in the cup at this stage to Darvel then it's a huge decision for him. To go out of the Scottish Cup at this stage would be disastrous " The travelling Aberdeen fans made their feelings known at half-time. He told the BBC: "To be perfectly honest, Darvel were the better team. I don't know if there's enough goodwill there from the chairman to actually allow Jim Goodwin to stay." It shows the level a lot of the boys are at. The West of Scotland League Premier Division champions dumped the Dons out the cup at the fourth round stage thanks to a 19th minute goal from Jordan Kirkpatrick. From the first day I came here I told the board we are going to build something special. The Ayrshire side will now go on to face League One side Falkirk in the fifth round at home next month. We’ve come here as the Premiership team against a team who are many tiers below us and we should've put on a better performance, it’s as simple as that. Replays showed Leighton Clarkson was several yards onside, while some excellent saves from Chris Truesdale in the Darvel goal also kept the Ayrshire in the tie.

And I’m not alone, there’s a few of my friends going who I know wouldn’t usually go.” Sheila Mare, who’s also part of the group, was out on Friday hanging blue and white decorations. Ian King from the Railway inn told Clyde 1: “The magnitude of this game for this town is unbelievable. It’s a massive challenge but that will certainly be how we plan to set out in the match.”

Callum Roberts is fit again after his long injury lay off, and will hope to see some action from the bench. Patrik Myslovic has been handed his first start after making his debut in Gorgie last week, whilst Ryan Duncan has been handed a recall to the starting XI. Pressure has been mounting on Dons boss Jim Goodwin in recent weeks, with his side winning just one of their last seven matches in all competitions. And whilst a victory against the junior side tonight is expected of them, the Irishman will want to put on a strong performance to try and gain some momentum going into the rest of the season. The Dons have made the journey to East Ayrshire to take on the West of Scotland Premier Division champions, with a home match against Falkirk in the fifth round awaiting the victors. Aberdeen have made three changes from last Wednesday's humiliating defeat to Hearts as they hope to avoid a seismic cup upset against Darvel in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.

Darvel caused one of the greatest Scottish Cup shocks in the competition's history by defeating Aberdeen 1-0.

More than participation in the Scottish Cup will surely have been ended as a consequence. And that was even before the home denizens numbering more than 2,300 – the town of Darvel only has a population of 4,000 – began to assemble for standing room only. Even the temporary platform erected behind the goal for the occasion – at a five-figure cost – didn’t have seats. Not sufficiently losed down, his delightful low drive on the spin was true, but it was helped sneak in by taking a nick off Coulson. Aberdeen had so little about them across the entire evening it was jaw-dropping. The move that engineered it began with Craig Truesdale haring down the left flank and shrugging off Yiber Ramadani as if he was a troublesome fly.

In the 74th minute Miovski had the ball in the net from a Leighton Clarkson square ball but the offside flag was up with no VAR to confirm or deny. It was winger Duncan, making his second start, who posed an early threat for the visitors on a more than decent surface, but missing the target with a couple of efforts. It was all set up for a famous night in the Ayrshire town which has a population of only 4,000.

I do not believe that I’ve never believed it till the draw has been done.” “That belief starts inside yourself then it spreads from one another but you must believe. “You’ve got to draw from one another when you need to find that extra yard, that extra bit of oxygen then look round about you, look to your brothers, look to your family, let’s look to the next round.” That’s all I’m asking for”, he added. He said: “The next 90 minutes are probably one of the most important 90 minutes of your career.”
