North East viewers said the episode left them feeling 'so lucky' as Robson explored Bamburgh and Seahouses with Les Ferdinand.

"When I immerse myself in the North East countryside, everything's good. Robson also opened up about how bracing walks along the Northumberland coast had helped his mental health. [Bamburgh](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/bamburgh) was a particular favourite in his family, Robson said, as he said that the stunning beach rivals "any in the Caribbean". [Hexham](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/hexham), has toured the region for his BBC2 show Robson Green's Weekend Escapes, and the first episode on Monday saw him stop off in Bamburgh. Robson was later joined by his "all-time hero", former [Newcastle United](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/newcastle-united-fc) legend Les Ferdinand - who made the surprising admission that he had never seen the Northumberland coast, despite having lived in Newcastle for several years when he was a striker in the 90s. [Beadnell](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/beadnell) bay and trying their hand at paddleboarding - something that proved quite a challenge for Robson and Les, who found themselves plunged into the sea on several occasions when trying to balance on their boards. [Robson Green](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/robson-green) visited a beauty spot that he said "never fails to fill me with joy" in the first episode of his new [BBC](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/bbc) series set in the North East. Nostalgic Robson added that visiting Bamburgh gave his parents - his dad who worked as a miner and his mam who had two jobs as a cleaner and shopkeeper - a "sense of freedom", sharing that his dad loved to swim in the chilly sea.

The star told Express.co.uk it made a nice change from his busy work life. "You had to be a company within the North East so my company made it and the production team predominantly had to be from the North East. "The guests take me to their favourite places in the North East and they explain why it's important to them to travel to these places. Robson and the gang take it in turns to show viewers the natural beauty of the North East.

Robson Green's new TV show featuring Saltburn and Staithes set to ... (Teesside Live)

Saltburn, Staithes, a quirky east Cleveland staycation spot and the River Tees will all feature.

The BBC said the show will see Robson go on a journey on an old steam train, spend a night in a hammock, sketch with local artists and cycle along the coast and castle route, which stretches from Newcastle to Edinburgh. Some of the other North east celebs joining Robson for his Weekend Escapes show include former England Lioness and I'm A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here!
