'Cramped' housing development near Somerset rat run thrown out (Somerset Live)

Plans for nearly 100 new homes in Crewkerne have been thrown out due to concerns about the "cramped" layout and the safety of residents.

Remembering magical night when Manchester United stars came to ... (Somerset Live)

World-famous football superstars flew into a local navy airbase and stayed at a quaint village hotel as the eyes of the world turned to Somerset.

On the day of the match, the Manchester United squad, including new signing Alexis Sanchez and manager Jose Mourinho, took an early flight and landed at RNAS Yeovilton. The squad then travelled by coach with a police escort to a sold-out Huish Park stadium. Manchester United staff members arrived at The Hollies, a quaint village hotel in Bower Hinton, near Martock, to get set up for the big game. A host of massive names took to the Huish Park pitch for the Red Devils on a cold and dark evening on January 26 2018. [Yeovil](https://www.somersetlive.co.uk/all-about/yeovil) as Manchester United took on The Glovers. Unfortunately, the brave Glovers couldn't contain United on this occasion, losing the game 4-0, although the heroic Somerset men did keep the visitors scoreless for 40 minutes.

Rapist had sex with passed out victim following night out (Somerset Live)

Kariua, 27, from Gloucestershire, but who was working in Truro at the time, was convicted of rape by a jury after a relatively short period of deliberation, ...

He denied having sex with the victim despite traces of his DNA being found on a swab. The victim was then picked up by her dad crying and shaking. "He carried on for a while and then stopped. They went to Bunters and then Vanilla and the victim described being nine out of 10 on the drunk scale. There came a point when the friend left as he had work in the morning. The victim, who lives in Cornwall, awoke to find Vetondouua Kariua having sex with her on October 23, 2021.
