Volunteers were also called just before 12.30pm on Friday (January 27) after a concerned member of the public thought they spotted a person clinging to an orange lifeboat buoy near Birnbeck Island. The man was suffering from mild hypothermia and was handed to the Portishead Coastguard Rescue Team. Anyone who spots someone in trouble along the The shore crew quickly launched both of the charity's inshore lifeboats from Knightstone Harbour to make best speed to the casualty vessel. Weston-super-Mare RNLI were called at 2pm on Sunday (January 29) after a Mayday call was received from a 17ft fishing boat with engine issues north of Sand Point.

A3088 Cartgate Link Road: Busy Yeovil route to close for ten days ... (Somerset Live)

A "large number" of diseased trees affected by ash dieback "pose a serious hazard due to their close proximity to the road" and will be removed by the council.

Ash dieback - otherwise known as Hymenoscypus fraxineus - is a national issue expected to kill or seriously damage more than 95 per cent of the nation's ash trees. There will be a full road closure in place from 8am to 4.30pm between Monday February 13 and Friday February 24 โ€“ not including the weekend of February 18 and 19. Diseased trees are posing a "serious hazard" on the A3088 Cartgate Link Road, according to the council.
